INTRODUCING: New navigation on the IMDb website!

We're excited to announce that on November 22, 2019, IMDb launched a new navigation experience across the mobile and desktop website. These changes provide an improved navigation experience to help you find something new to watch every day.

Select "Menu" to find the parts of the site you know and love, like top-rated movies, celebrity news, and IMDb Originals. There is also easy access to IMDb TV (where available), your Watchlist, your Activity page and account settings.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Where is the link of the Contributor's Zone?.

Hello:

It seems IMDb.com has made some changes, and I can't find the link to the Contributor's Zone in the new IMDb Menu. There is in fact no section for Contributors, nor to Contributions Guidelines, as far as I can see.

Am I doing something wrong or missing something obvious? Or there is in fact no link to the very helpful Contributor's Zone?

Thanks in advance.

Select "Menu" in the upper-left corner of the page, then Contributor Zone can be found under the "Community" section on the lower-right.

How do I do what used to do?  Type in the name of a film or TV show and all the information shows up?  There is no way to do this now.

Like a lot the new navigation. But I cannot find the "More Like This" section anymore.

One of the things I liked most about IMDb was the poster section, but now it's gone! WTF IMDb? Way to slit your own throat!

Although we might have lost some pre-fabricated lists created by editors (or just the easy access to them), you can always use Advanced Title Search to browse.
https://www.imdb.com/search/title
For example:
https://www.imdb.com/search/title/?release_date=2019-12-01,2019-12-31&sort=release_date,asc

It's too time.consuming. I loved being able to look back over the months to see if there were any movies I might be interested in. I like every kind of genre. I just dont have the patience to do a search this new way. I'm with the majority, this new style is horrible

So now it seems we're at the mercy of whatever new release is deemed popular.  It dominates the site, obliging the users to search around before finding something genuinely informative.

The new look site is displaying on my Windows 7 machine but the old format is working on my Windows 10 machine? - Both with Firefox. The new format is not very user friendly.... much prefer the old format

With all the negative feedback, hopefully IMDB will pay attention and give us back the previous site.

please give me the option to go back to the previous version.
this is unbearably bad.
this is IMDB - not a streaming service page on my ROKU.

This new UI needs to go. This huge half screen scrolling banner at the top is an eyesore that takes up way too much real estate. The whole free streaming old crappy movies on imdb tv doesn't interest me in the least. I'm here for industry news, not here for a streaming service. Speaking of news, it was so convenient with the old UI to scroll down and get the 4ish top news snippets curated from all the different categories right on the main page. Now I have to click on the menu to chose a category of news (Movies, TV, Celebrity, etc). It's all entertainment news... why split it all up? The right arrow to see more is annoying. Netflix you are not. If you want to make a mobile friendly UI, that's fine as long as you only have said UI on mobile devices. Leave said UI version off of my PC web browsing version and give me the old layout back.

Cell phones and lazy companies. First Microsoft with there dumb tiles and now IMDB with swiping elements. You8 might have made navgation better for lame (wish they had a PC crowd) but for PC users, its a time consuming nightmare. I give you one month and I'm gone if its not changed back. There is a reason why I'm on Ubantu.

Possible bug: On a mobile device, when I (a) use your "View full site" link (or "More on IMDb.com" in the app) or (b) have enabled a "Request desktop" browser setting, the mobile navigation is shown instead of the desktop version.

Hi! My screen is 1366*768.  I have two windows open, one window for each half of the screen. One window is IMDB in MS Edge or IMDB in Firefox. The other is anything else. I used to get the IMDB search bar, but since the change the search bar will not appear if my window is this size. I need to resize the window to a bit over half size for the search bar to appear.  This is sub-optimal. It's not a huge deal, but it is the kind of irritating problem that makes IMDB less fun to use.

Looking at a copy of the old homepage on archive.org (thank you, Act_1), I don't see anything special about watchlist info on the homepage, versus its display on any other page.

We still have direct access to it on the dropdown menu of our username. I do miss the fact that I could see the latest items added by mousing over the link, and seeing the count without opening the page. (I often use the Watchlist to build other list content.)

BTW, the mobile version has the link with the count, but mouseover does nothing (and I wouldn't use the mobile version on my desktop computer):

Ah. I have my desktop version set at 110% zoom, which causes Watchlist to be omitted.

Resetting back to 100% shows the link.
Really don't need the search bar to be so big before we access it.

Hi all — thanks for your feedback on this. The "Watchlist" button & count is now visible in the navigation bar at smaller screen widths. Hope this helps.

Taking us away recommendations in the first screen ? Really ? Basically saying give  us money for the algorithm or something. The connected world right ? All watching the same things. Culture looses and everyone becomes a mush of working flesh.

Whatever you have done you should un-do it and fire the people behind it. You went from a professional stable site to one that feels like the trainee IT girl straight out of school designed it. Absolutely awful. I can't express how much I hate it. All so some moron on a touch screen can finger IMDB like he would a Rotten Tomato. Seems not only Hollyweird is listening to the wrong people these days. Whoever advised that this was a needed and good idea just ruined IMDB. Congratulations. This better get fixed or undone quickly or I will be looking for the next best site.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled You Just Ruined Your Site.

Your new site layout/update was not necessary and really is horrible. I hate it. Why can't people just leave things alone? Whoever came up with this needs to be fired. It's more than awful. Just change it back or I'm going to abandon this site. You just ruined it. The font even looks terrible and it looks like it's trying to appeal to five year olds. If I wanted to hang with five year olds I'd go to Rotten Tomatoes. You were on to a winner IMDB now you're going to drive people away in droves all so some pea brain thumbing at a touch phone can dribble out some inane broken sentence nobody wants to read. Those people can go to Rotten Tomatoes. That's where all the mouth breathers go. Don't bring them here.

Where do I enter a movie/tv title to get information thereupon?
Do I really have to go to Google search and enter (for example)
"IMDB Veronica Mars"?
Really?

The search box is still visible on the desktop version.

and on the mobile-optimized version (still on desktop).

I'm using WWW.IMDB.COM via Firefox under Windows 7 Professional on a Desktop computer with a 24 inch screen.
Where's the search box that used to be at the top of the page?

Well done IMDB.
I've found it hiding behind the greyed "Search IMDB".
That was not very intuitive was it?
Black entry box on black background.
Click on "Search IMDB" and it is revealed!

But it's not found on phones and tabs. Only in broad screen.

I don't understand what you are missing.
On my Android phone, I still see a magnifier icon for searches on both the app and the desktop version in Chrome.

bderoes,

Try resizing the IMDB window. On my screen if I have two windows open, half a screen-width per window, the search box does not appear. This is in Firefox and Edge on Windows 10.

Up to this week,I click on my Icon and immediately get the website where I type A film name OR an actors name and all the info comes up. NOW i get a website completely different to the old one and I cannot see where I could NOW get the same info?

I prefer the older design. There seems to be a trend, a uniform decision among many sites nowadays to replace their good designs with cheaper looking ones. It's unfortunate and I wonder why they do it.

I can see it on desktop version, but mobile phone version doesn't have it.

Also, desktop version is tooooo slow to navigate with this new unnecessary redisign.

Ed: Thanks for your reply. I looked at many of these responses and looked at file visual samples. Discovered that the problem is with Chrome browser. On Chrome I have to go to full screen to get search option. It's not hidden on reg screen. It's just not there. On Firefox it is fine--but I'm preferring Chrome these days.  So, still have that issue. Maybe web editors will get this fixed.

AHA!  OK, that was me just one week ago! Seems like two! BUT, I found out that it was NOT Chrome browser after all. When I expanded the width of the file--it opened up the search bar--just like old times! I've been happy ever since. I use IMDB, like everyday.  So for about two days I was so angry and frustrated. But then it worked out with just one simple little solution.
I do appreciate, reading here, that IMDB staff editors or web designers did listen to all our fierce complaints, and they have done something to address this. So, I'm not sure if it was my little adjustment---but actually tonight I see the search bar being all white! Nt the blended gray that kind of hid itself. Any whoooos! It is GREAT again!!

The SEARCH is now AOK!! Has been for me for the last week! I am so pleased that IMDB actually reads and studies the complaints we file and they have responded beautifully. I really appreciate this. I use IMDB so much and I was concerned we were going to lose it as I knew it. Thank you IMDB!
