Introducing: New Credit Categories and Professions

Introducing: New Credit Categories and Professions

We are excited to announce 12 new credit categories on IMDb, advancing recognition for essential entertainment professions

This enhancement reflects our commitment to serving the evolving entertainment industry and acknowledging the increasingly diverse roles that make today's content possible.

The new credit categories are: Choreography; Color Department; Craft Services; Health and Safety Department; Intimacy Coordination; Legal; Production Department; Production Finance and Accounting; Property Department; Publicity; Puppetry; and Voice Actor - Dubbing. Previously, these credits were primarily listed under the "Additional Crew" category. Credits are also now displayed under dedicated section headings for these new categories across IMDb and IMDbPro web and apps. IMDb will continue to expand professional credit categories and recognition opportunities based on industry feedback.

The "Voice Actor - Dubbing" credit category is for voice performances ("dubs") that are translated versions of a title’s originally recorded dialog. We currently accept dubs into the following languages: English, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish.

To contribute credits under these new categories, just navigate to the usual credits contribution interface via one of the “Edit”/pencil buttons on a name or title page. You will now see these twelve additional category options listed underneath the pre-existing ones. As before, the “Role” field for each category includes a searchable menu of the most common roles listed under each credit category. For example, the role “production coordinator” is now suggested under the new category “Production Department” (it was previously listed under “Additional Crew”).

Please note that we are also in the process of migrating pre-existing credit items to their relevant new credit category. This will take a number of days, due to the sheer number of credits that we need to move. We expect to complete this migration by Sunday, November 9 at 11:59PM PST.

For more information about these new credit categories, please visit our Help Guide: https://help.imdb.com/article/imdbpro/new-features-updates/announcement-new-credit-categories-and-professions/GWTJ4QXRS5HSJUPZ#

In addition to new credit categories, IMDbPro Premium members can also select their professions from a recently expanded list of nearly 500 options to enhance their discoverability by industry decision-makers. You will therefore start noticing more specific professions (such as “Production Coordinator” and “Digital Colorist”) directly underneath the person’s name on some name pages across IMDb and IMDbPro.

As always, we’d love to hear your thoughts, feel free to share your questions and feedback in the comments below!

Many thanks — The IMDb Team

Can imdb allow users to add voice actor dubbing credits without adding the character role?  Sometimes the voice actor is listed without  adding the character role in the credits such as the sold Dimension Home Video Jet Li English dubbed movies.   https://english-voice-over.fandom.com/wiki/The_Defender_(2000) Note: This comment was created from a merged conversation Link : https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/imdbcom/cant-add-dubbing-actors-without-role/6984ba8fdc29c53a92f1f7ad Title : Can't add dubbing actors without Role?

I've been a paid user for a 5 years now,  my work is primarily ADR. After the update, in the 'Known for' category it says "Voice Actor Dubbing English" on every new dubbing role where the character name used to be.

with the new categories I do see a problem with my "old" credits as production controller (which is essentially located in production finance/accounting) as they have not been migrated. They stay quite odd with "other" and this is somehow misleading. How can they be swapped? it is Steffi Hiller (I) on imdb.com and refers to

A Most Wanted Man and The Cut (both 2014) All other entries under "additional crew" I was able to re-enter into Production Finance and Accounting but these two. I had no chance. Thanks for your help!

Hello!

You've mistakenly allocated the role of 'petty cash buyer' to Production Finance & Accounting. The role of Petty Cash Buyer in the UK is a role within Set Decoration and the Art Department. Whilst there's handling of money, it's all for the purpose of buying and sourcing props and items for the decoration of the sets and it's got nothing to do with Accounting or Production Finance. Having been a petty cash buyer myself for many years, I can assure you it’s got nothing to do with Accounting or Financing.

Would you mind rectifying this please? Thank you very much!

Since the new categories have been added and the job titles are no longer picked from a drop-down menu, there have been some anomalies which have mostly now been ironed out, I think.

But I have two more - we were always told that theme music composers did not belong in the main Composers section, but in the Music section.  However, now when I add one it says:

We would usually list composer: theme music in the Composer section, so this credit has been moved.

The other one is the regular TV credit "stage manager" - this always went in Other/Miscellaneous/Additional Crew, but now it says:

We would usually list stage manager in the Production Management section, so this credit has been moved.

Accept move to the 'Production Management' section
Move back to the 'Additional Crew' section

However, it leaves "floor manager" in the Additional Crew section.  Surely these two positions are equivalent to each other, so both belong in the same category?  Production coordinator has never been classed as a Production Manager, so I don't think we can assume that those other two rôles do or don't belong in a Production Managers department.

I believe 'Stand-In' should be moved from the "Additional Crew" category to the "Camera and Electrical Department" heading.

What if a voice actor dubbing actor does not have a character listed in the credits?  it won't let us put it in the dubbing voice actor section.  Note: This comment was created from a merged conversation Link : https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/imdbcom/what-if-a-voice-actor-does-not-have-a-charater-listed-in-the-credits/699617602fdedf1d53ab5013 Title : What if a voice actor does not have a charater listed in the credits?

Still weird how the categories are treated. For example, someone with most of their credits in Property Department has Additional Crew at the top of the page and next to their name in search results, including in the suggestions in the update form, which is unhelpful.

Although it was about time to open up new categories the way it has been handled it is not helpful at all. My strong belief is that IT people do not necessary understand the structure of the business itself! For example my own credits. Working as production controller, e.g. head of production finance, the job is now found under "additional" 🤣 It somehow funny but definitely not to use anymore as reference. I was offered help (through this forum) but nothing happened.

Since both TV and Film academies have created a Production Technology or Production and Technology Peer group, wouldn't it make sense to make this a category for roles on a production?  After all we have Scientific Technical and Engineering awards for both the Emmys and Oscars, and we have committees that are made up of people who carry production technology or creative technology roles in the industry.  Could we kindly consider adding this category into IMDB?
