IMDb Site Suggestion: Can we make IMDb more like BGG?

I love IMDb. I love being able to rate movies and shows and have those ratings actually change the overall rating of a movie. I also love to do the same for board games on BGG (Boardgamegeek). I must say that BGG is what I wish IMDb would be. There is so much more interaction between users. You can have your own profile that has your rankings, lists, top ten, contributions, etc. all available for your friends to see. There are vibrant and well used forums and reviews all linked back to user profiles. It is genius. IMDb needs these features. The features of BGG with the quality of IMDb would be so cool. I hope this can become something soon. Thank you for reading.

On the IMDb you do have your own profile where you can post your rankings and have lists both public and private. For example, my page: https://www.imdb.com/user/ur1503519/

You can see other people's profiles on the full website (with limitations on what is available based on that person's settings), but I don't think that is available on the apps.

In olden times there were thousands of message boards on the IMDb - some generalized ones for movie genres as well as individual boards for each person and title in the database. The boards were shut down in February 2017. Here's their FAQ on the shut-down.

Thanks for the reply. In my experience I would love for even just a little bit more social interaction on this site. I so badly want to be able to follow other users and see how they rate what they are watching and see any new lists they create. I don't know how anyone would come across my page ( dustindanielbender's Profile - IMDb ) unless I share it with them.

Also, I mainly use my phone, which makes the already limited access even more limited.

I just did some research on the message boards, and it seems like a really disappointing turn of events. I wonder if they will ever come back around or if there is another site with these features that I don't know about.

It does at least look like there is a mobile version of the profile page - https://m.imdb.com/user/ur1503519/. But yes - there's no way within the IMDb itself to locate users. If you know someone's user name you may be able to find them via a google search.

It would have been nice for them to at least have left some version of the old Friends list - maybe using the same coding behind their current movie or cast lists but using the ur* IDs?

I do miss the boards, though apart from the contributor board I tended to lurk more than post.

You might be able to find some replacement options in the massive announcement thread from three years ago.

I am not a fan of social media myself. What I am suggesting is to create the possibility for people to share their ratings and follow other people's ratings. Everything would be limited to the topic of Movies and TV. If people want to continue to use IMDb only as a Wikipedia type user created reference site, they are free to do so and the new features wouldn't effect that at all. That's just my idea.
