IMDb Redesigns Title Reference View

We are excited to announce the launch of IMDb’s redesigned Title Reference View page! The page has been updated with improved accessibility across multiple device formats. We have also made a number of further refinements to it following an opt-in Beta test. As before, the redesigned Title Reference View page can be accessed on IMDb web by ticking "Show reference view with full cast and crew (advanced view)" at www.imdb.com/preferences/general.  This will cause you to be automatically redirected to Title Reference View whenever loading a title's main page. Alternatively, you can access Title Reference View on a one-off basis by typing /reference at the end of the URL for a title's main page, like www.imdb.com/title/tt0133093/reference.

Please note that we are launching this page gradually to all users between June 9th and June 12th. You therefore may not see the redesigned page yet, however you should see it by June 12th at the latest.

We hope you enjoy these latest improvements, and thank you for continuing to make IMDb the world’s most trusted source for movie, TV, and entertainment content.

With the new reference view design, where can one find the exact number of ratings for a title if it's more than 1000? It used to be displayed on both the reference view and the advanced search results until the most recent refresh. Now, as far as I can tell, it's only available in data exports?

Hi - it is not possible to see the exact number on IMDb web. However, the exact number is shown in the IMDb iOS and Android apps.

@dylan: Will this be changed? It doesn't make much sense to remove specific, precise information that has been available for over two decades as well as information that *is* available via other devices.

Okay, thanks for the information dylan. Not ideal, but a feasible workaround for when I need it. I agree with Marco that it would be nice for it to be restored on web. Thanks.

Make the actor's names and their character names the SAME size. Ditto for the crewmembers' names and their roles. It's a simple fix.

Hi all - just to say that season and episode year numbers are now shown in reverse-chronological order on series pages, as requested. Many thanks for raising this.

@dylan: Guess I'm the odd one out; I really liked that it was in chronological order. But as long we still have (some) democracies in the world, I'm happy IMDb is one of them :)

I believe Col once said that reference view would never get an update, so I'm happy to see this update. And I'm very happy that the (archive footage) attribute is now properly displaying. It's the little things I suppose :)

Regarding the new reference view: you need to make the character names the SAME size as the actors names. Same with crewmembers and roles. You already do it with companies. In order to be able to easily read the character names, I have to enlarge the screen, but then the actors' names are too large. Damned if I do, damned if I don't. Also, right now, everything appears to be shoved to the left. Lots of wasted space to the right. I have added lots of data over the years to IMDb. Nobody is going to edit on smart phones. So why does the reference view cater so much to them?

My ref view 'upgrade' just finally came through. And it's completely broken - every single title search now comes up with this error page, unless I turn off ref view and relegate myself to a rotarded mobile monkey user: It looks like we don't have any full cast & crew for this title yet. @Nostromo21 There is an on-going site outage at the moment which is now affecting /title/reference view, sorry. Please see https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/imdbcom/imdb-claims-there-is-no-data-on-movies-if-im-logged-in-but-its-there-if-i-log-out/68e1ec196c7147011215e51e?commentId=68e249bc6c7147011217e76b for a workaround.

No matter documentary or not, the "Self" credits disappear from TV-Series pages when browsing in the Reference mode. But they are in place on the FullCredits pages. Other credits are not affected.
