IMDb Needs to differenciate between Single Film Spoilers vs. Franchise Spoilers
So, while the Spoilers warnings are great to ensure we, the user of IMDb are not given spoilers of the movie/show we want to watch, this is no problem when a spoiler only applies to a single film or a single episode (once we watched it, we can ignore spoiler warnings). The problem is when a television series, or a film/videogame franchise, are given spoilers of the rest of the franchise/series within the earlier entry's IMDb page. This can spoil the experience to IMDb users who have only seen the first entries to the series/franchise. Here are some examples:In the trivia section of the video game "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1125798/trivia?ref_=tt_trv_trv#spoilers , a spoiler contained plot information that was not to be revealed to the player that hasn't yet played the sequel (Modern Warfare 3). Because a player who completed the game may not expect to see this type of spoiler, this should be labelled as a Franchise Spoiler. In the trivia section of the television series "Star Trek: Voyager"'s first episode, "Caretaker" https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114530/trivia?ref_=tt_trv_trv#spoilers, two spoilers are of interest to us: "In the first draft script, the Caretaker's array..." This piece of trivia is safe to view for anyone who has so far only seen that first episode, because it does not reveal any subsequent episodes' events. Therefore, this is an Episode Spoiler, not a Series Spoiler nor a Franchise Spoiler."Regarding Star Trek: Voyager: Endgame (2001): The first and final episodes..." This piece of trivia reveals information pertaining to the final episode of this series, but not of any other subsequent Star Trek series/film. Therefore, this should be labelled as a Series Spoiler, not a Franchise Spoiler. It would greatly improve our experiences in the IMDb if we get to understand which information will spoil how much of the franchise/series we are watching. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask me further. Thanks, Paul
