IMDb could be a terrific tool for recommendations since no other platform has the quantity quality and authenticity of data on Movies & TV

I have been using IMDb since the past 6 years and seldom a day goes by when I don't open it at least once so I've seen all the changes, upgrades and additions in real time. As a teen who had just begun to be captivated by the world of cinema, I found IMDb to be a indispensable tool for recommendations. And this was before streaming services and social media were ubiquitous and also I knew nobody who would recommend me films since everyone would come to me for those. The top 250 list along with filmography's of all the cast and crew proved to be remarkably helpful in navigating the magnificent plethora of titles. Not to mention the countless number of hidden gems I came across. There are so many movies/TV that most people are only now (since binge watching became trending) becoming aware of and many more that are still unheard of and I had seen these a long time ago thanks to IMDb. To this day I get most of my recommendations here.

However, looking at IMDb today, I feel that if someone begins their foray into the world of cinema today would have trouble with getting the right recommendations from IMDb. Here are few of the things that I feel IMDb should implement:

1. Top 250 movie list for this century (there isn't one on the app, which I think most people use nowadays) - I can't insist how important this is because when you start watching you instinctively look for the best one's out there and the top 250 list this I see today has drastically changed from the one I first saw (I know with good reason). It is filled with foreign language and movies from the Golden Era - B/W or classics. Now I'm not saying that it's bad on the contrary it's better and I love the list but if you are someone who doesn't know movies you won't want to watch foreign language or b/w's, you want to watch the best ones similar to the one you are used to watching and also one needs to have the right experience with movies before you can move on to and completely appreciate films from a different time and countries.

So what I would propose is have a list for the Top 250 (the one that's there already (I've seen more than 200 of those btw)), Top 250 (English and Foreign language),Top 250 of 21st century (English, Foreign Language and both). Trust me, this will do wonders for the people who are really invested in watching films.

See the thing is most people are not very interested in foreign language movies or classics unless it something like Parasite (2019) which everyone saw because nobody wanted to be left out. So, curating a list like the current one might be appealing to  a serious moviegoer like me but it pushes the larger audience away. And if you take the right path you'll be drawn to foreign language movies or classics sooner or later.

2. Top 250 TV Shows - Same recommendations as above, maybe you don't need to have different list for the century but I don't understand why there are so many documentaries in the TV list and none in the movie list. I would say make a different list of best documentaries for both movies and TV. Why? Majority don't watch docs and the one who do or really want a different list so that they can explore the best ones according to choices. Also, having so many documentaries takes space of nummerous shows that are rated lower (below 8.5 whereas for movies it's 8.1 I think) but are still worthy to on the top 250.

3.Also, IMDb can be the space where people come when they are under the dilemma of what to watch because it is time consuming and annoying to decide and helping with that is the best thing you can do. IMDb can do personalized recommendations and also curate lists for LQBTQ movies, female directors, etc...
