IMDb Community Guidelines

IMDb Community Guidelines

The IMDb community is designed to bring members together to share knowledge, resolve issues, and identify bugs in a collaborative and constructive environment. We encourage peer-to-peer support so members can learn from one another’s experience and expertise. By promoting best practices and providing clarity around policies, processes, and known issues, we aim to create transparency and reduce confusion. This space also serves as a channel for surfacing thoughtful product feedback that can inform future improvements.

Above all, we strive to build trust through respectful interaction, increase efficiency by centralizing solutions, and recognize valuable contributions that strengthen the experience for everyone.

Participating in Our Community

Respect
Share your concerns openly, but please keep communication constructive and professional. We welcome feedback and differing perspectives; however, we do not tolerate personal attacks, speculation, or dismissive language toward other members, contributors, or staff.

Clarity
Be specific about what you need. Whether you're asking about a data contribution, billing issue, or reporting a bug, detailed information helps us to help you faster. Include relevant links, contribution reference numbers, screenshots, error messages, and the steps you’ve already taken. Clear questions lead to clear solutions.

Collaboration
Support works best when we work together. Whether you’re asking a question or offering an answer, we encourage thoughtful participation that moves the conversation forward. Share relevant details, build on others’ insights, and stay engaged until issues are resolved. By contributing constructively and helping one another, we create a stronger, more effective community for everyone.

Productivity
Ask questions, even complex ones, and contribute thoughtfully. To keep the forum effective for everyone, please post in the appropriate category, stay on topic, and avoid duplicate threads. Communicate in a way that respects the time and effort of fellow members and moderators.

Members may contribute:

  • Posts related to IMDb experiences, including features, contributions, memberships, and app usage.
  • Ideas for new and/or improved features
  • Screenshots or direct links to help verify and clarify information.
  • For data issues, please include the 18-digit submission reference number(s) which can be found in your Contribution History for most data contributions and/or in Your Contribution History (beta) for Images and User Reviews

Members may not include:

  • Spam: including repetitive posts, promotional content, malicious links, or unsolicited advertisements.
  • The sharing of personal or sensitive information, including phone numbers, email addresses, physical addresses, or links to personal data.
  • Content for issues non-related to IMDb

Reporting Community Violations
If you encounter content that violates our Community Guidelines, please report it by tagging a moderator directly in the thread using @ModeratorName for urgent safety concerns.

Our moderation team reviews reports within 24 hours and will take appropriate action in accordance with our guidelines.

Violations of our Community Guidelines will result in appropriate enforcement actions, which may include:

  • First offense: Warning and content removal
  • Repeated violations: Temporary suspension from the community (duration based on severity)
  • Severe or persistent violations: Permanent account suspension or block from the community

The moderation team will review each case individually and determine the appropriate response based on the nature and severity of the violation. We are committed to maintaining a safe, respectful environment for all community members.

IMDb's Role in the Community
IMDb moderators are here to support a healthy, productive community experience. We actively monitor discussions, provide guidance on policies and processes, and work to ensure the forum remains a constructive space for all members.

  • Guidance and Clarity: Moderators will provide information about IMDb policies, contribution guidelines, and platform features. We'll help direct you to the right resources and clarify processes when questions arise.
  • Issue Escalation: When technical problems, bugs, or data concerns require internal review, moderators will escalate your issue to the appropriate team and provide updates when available. While we cannot guarantee specific timelines or outcomes, we are committed to ensuring your concerns are heard.
  • Community Management: Moderators will enforce these community guidelines fairly and consistently. This includes addressing violations, removing inappropriate content, and acting when necessary to maintain a respectful environment.
  • Transparency: We strive to be clear about what we can and cannot address directly in the forum. Depending on the issues, these may need to be handled through other support channels, and we'll guide you accordingly.

What We Ask of You
Please understand that moderators may not be able to respond to every post, but we review posts, comments, and replies daily. Response times may vary based on complexity and volume. We appreciate your patience if you are awaiting assistance from IMDb staff and encourage community members to support one another.

Feedback Matters
Your input helps shape IMDb's future. Moderators actively collect and share product feedback, feature requests, and recurring concerns with internal teams. While not every suggestion can be implemented, your voice contributes to ongoing improvements.
