Heart icon is horrible

I already hated this change to the site, but I just found maybe the best example of why it's awful.

That John Cena could be anyone under that stupid heart icon. I can't tell who most of these people are under the icon, and I should NOT have to click into "All cast and crew" or the actor's page to see the photo better. Give us a way to turn the icons off, please.

Hi @somnomania,

Thank you for your feedback.

I am not able to recreate the exact experience you're seeing here, could you provide us with some additional details so we can look into why these icons are displaying this way? Please could you share with us as many of the following details:

  • Your device model (e.g. Mac/Windows)
  • Your device OS (e.g. 26 Tahoe/ Windows 11)
  • Your browser and version (e.g. Safari 26, Chrome 145.0.7632.26 / .27
  • Is the issue also happening with other browser/devices?

Thanks!

Windows 10, Windows laptop (Acer Nitro 5), Vivaldi browser (7.8.3925.56 (Official Build) (64-bit); Chromium 144.0.7559.114). I checked in Edge and DuckDuckGo and it looks there like it does for my mom, who's running Vivaldi on Windows 11. Mobile (both the app and in a browser) have rectangular portraits instead of circles.

Hi @somnomania,

Thank you for confirming these details. I have shared them with the appropriate team, who're looking into what can be done to resolve this display issue.

I'll update this thread once the team reach a decision.

Cheers!

Hi @somnomania,

I'm able to confirm that the team have launched a fix to adjust the icon location, meaning there should be less overlap with the cast images. The team will also be conducting further experiments with this feature, so that additional improvements can be made wherever possible.

If this latest fix doesn't address the issue you've reported, please could you refer to this Help topic, and try viewing the feature in any alternative browsers you might have access to. Please do let us know if trying alternative browsers or any of the advised remedies doesn't solve this problem though, and I'll be sure to pass this onto the team to continue investigating.

Cheers!

@Ozzy It's a little better, I guess, but considering the number of times I've gone looking to see who someone was, without knowing the character name and therefore just looking for a familiar face, nothing will be as good as just not having the hearts there at all. If the portrait sizes were standardized across browsers (the fact that they aren't is baffling) it would also help. They're the smallest they can possibly be for the only browser I routinely use, which is Vivaldi.

@somnomania In that case, this is something you should report to Vivaldi as a bug in their browser, sorry.

The list of supported browsers for IMDb is available at the top of https://help.imdb.com/article/imdb/common-issues/why-is-imdb-displaying-differently-on-my-browser/GF2ZAR69V859XLHF

The 'heart' icon is fundamentally inappropriate for a database like IMDb. This platform includes profiles for some of the most heinous figures in history, such as Adolf Hitler and Heinrich Himmler, as well as notorious serial killers like Ted Bundy or Jeffrey Dahmer. Furthermore, having a heart option for predators like Jeffrey Epstein is beyond tone-deaf; it's offensive. This is exactly why I’ve used an AdBlocker to hide that element entirely. Not only does it remove a morally questionable feature, but the site also looks much 'cleaner' without those icons cluttering the UI.
