Genre and subgenre translation problems in French IMDb version

Hi Maya,

I checked today and none of the 33 corrections here above, that I made 1 month ago (mid october) for French names, have been implemented. It was a recap of everything remaining to do about this topic. Is there a problem? Can you please ask the team in charge why it is so long and when will they implement them?

I only talk about my last post from mid october with 33 corrections (not about any of the previous posts of this page, as this last one is a recap).

Annd from these 33 corrections, I saw none implemented.

The correction to implement is not present in the title of each 33 corrections (the title only indicates what exists), but is usually located at the end of the content of each 33 corrections I wrote.

For instance, in the « 1- », « Détectives maladroits » has to be replaced by « Détective maladroit » (singular).

You opened a new report the 7th of December 2025 for the remaining corrections of this genre and subgenre section in French (all the previous reports made before December being considered to be closed). We have since exchanged about this last report, where there has been 19 different corrections to implement. I checked today and none has been implemented. In fact, there has been no update in this French genre and subgenre section since at least December 2025. I have a new correction to add, but I will not do it if it goes to nowhere:

1- Either there is a rational explication and I have a date of  implementation for these 19 corrections. In that case, it is okay.

2- Either you have no particular news, except « There was a setback ». In that case, it probably means this report opened in December is a write-off. I suggest you close this current report and you open a fresh new one, in which I give you now in one shot the 20 remaining corrections. We will have a new start and all the remaining corrections will be remembered to the appropriate team (back to the top of the pile). The report with the 20 is ready. Give me a go and I post it here (it is only copy and paste for me).

It takes me quite a long time to think about the best way to name every genre/subgenre/interest in French, then to write it to you and finally to check it 🌷. I do it for the IMDb French users comfort ☺️

I joined new corrections last week further to a new section « Franchise » recently added to the genre/interest IMDb page. As this new section « Franchise » is only in English (?) even on French IMDb, I noticed that 15 corrections are necessary in order to have everything understandable in France. And I added the remainder of 15 previous corrections still not implemented (I checked before joining them).

I noticed that genre/interest corrections I asked were sometimes not implemented. Hopefully, it also happened that genre/interest corrections I asked were all implemented. It depends. So I keep hope everything will be done this time. I do not quit.

We have already done a good job, but when new sections are added like here, new corrections have sometimes to be done.

It’s not very nice to keep the silence. It looks like these 30 necessary corrections will never be taken into account. As a French native speaking person born and living in France, I know when corrections have to be done in French.

Please explain to me what happens

Apologies for the delayed response! 

The reports have been passed to the respective team and we continue to follow-up with the team on them. However, there has been setbacks with the corrections and previous fixing of the display as well. 

Unfortunately, these changes might not be immediate and are taking longer than expected. Therefore, I cannot give you an approximate of when they will be implemented.

I checked everything last week before joining the 30 requested corrections. It means you can delete/forget my previous requested corrections not implemented before last week and only focus on these 30 ones. I Hope it will help. Unless you make changes or add new sections in the genre/interest page, everything will be alright on my side after the implementation of these 30 corrections ☺️

I'm happy to let you know that the 30 corrections from your most recent post have now been implemented and are live on the site. You should now be able to see the changes on the Interest pages (with French-France selected).

This includes all 14 franchise name localizations (Avatar, Le Seigneur des anneaux, Bob l'éponge, La Reine des neiges, etc.), the genre/subgenre fixes (Film d'action de série B, Film de braquage, Détective dur à cuire, Histoire, etc.), the capitalization corrections (Road trip, Dark fantasy, Stand-up, Gun fu, Kung-fu, Crimes et drogue), the Super-héros hyphen fix, and the category labels on the "all" page (Court-métrage, Fantastique, Fêtes de fin d'année).Please do let us know if that looks correct now, or if any further changes are needed.

Indeed, « Criminel » is used twice (look at the 2 titles circled here after):

It’s better in French to use a noun (« Crime ») than an adjective (« Criminel ») to label a genre. All the other French genres on this IMDb page (« Drame », « Famille », « Comédie », etc.) are nouns, so please make it uniform. Moreover, it is shorter, so more practical to display on the screen (less space used):

Both can be said in France, but I realized that the shorter, the better. Indeed, it is useless to use too much place for display on IMDb when a shorter and less wordy form exists.
