Yes this is a great idea , so that people could easily socialize and chat with the people of same taste.

I like the idea of a simple friend list or even a way to create groups as long as I'm in control over how much this will affect me. I don't want it to be similar to something like youtube (activity feeds in groups ok but not on my frontpage ;)

Yes, adding more social features to IMDB could help people find more films, which has to help IMDB's sister sites like Amazon and LoveFilm.

Goodreads might be a good model for how this could work. On that site, your home page has a Facebook-like news feed of updates from your friends: titles they recently rated, or want to read (i.e. Watchlist). An awesome way to make the site more social. Also I'd rather only share my ratings with friends I've added and not with the general public.

Although I think the twitter way with "follow" is better fit.  

I would like to follow people to get updaters on ther reviews and lists. Though they might not have

the same wish to follow my updater. Hence I think "follow" is more appropriate then "friend".

I simply cannot believe that IMDb hasn't implemented a friends system yet. It a absolute hoot to see your friends ratings on goodreads (IMDb for books) for example. A feature where you can see your friends ratings on a movie should be top priority.

They have... but i is very bad!!! You can not search for your friends... how ever if you finde a friend you can ad him, and then to view your friends, you will go to the bottom of the page and press  Message Boards, and then to the right you press Friends. Then if your friend allowes it you can see his ratings and listes ;)

Just thought it would be good if you could follow other people within the IMDb community, similar to the other social network sites out there. It could be as simple as allowing members to build networks of people who like similar films or as fancy as a personalised user-feed based upon others' activities, with films recommended by IMDb based upon your ratings history etc.

Me and some friends are using a site called filmaffinity.com for comparing movies we see. If i search up a movie and my friend have seen it and rated it you can see the rating he gave. If more friends have seen it you will see a average rating of that movie. This would have been a great thing on IMDB because i love IMDB it is the best movie info site on the internet. But should be more things to do with friends there like this and other things. If this was here i would not need another site for this.

Like many people, I share recommendations with friends I think might be interested in a particular movie. Is there a capability within imdb to have a friends recommendation list? The first step would require people to connect with their friends. Once connected they could add recommendations to each others lists. I see several apps encourage activity like this via twitter of facebook but I am not interested in making my suggestions to my entire twitter or facebook audience. Any suggestions if this can be done in imdb or if not, another app that supports this use model? Thanks!
