Feature Request: Allow Users to Rate Individual TV Seasons
IMDb currently allows users to rate an entire TV series or its individual episodes, but not a season as a complete unit. I believe adding direct season ratings would significantly improve the rating system.
This is particularly important for long-running series. For example, we are currently watching Season 5 of The Walking Dead. We think the series has been very good so far, but we have not watched the later seasons. Rating the entire series at this point would imply that we are judging seasons we have not yet seen.
Season ratings would also be valuable for anthology series such as True Detective, where each season has a different story, cast and level of quality. In my personal assessment, Season 1 is a 10/10, while Season 2 is closer to a 7/10. A single overall series rating cannot represent this difference.
My suggestion would be:
- Add a separate 1–10 user rating for each season
- Keep this rating separate from the calculated average of individual episode ratings
- Allow users to rate only the seasons they have watched
- Keep the overall series rating available as an independent and optional rating
- Show personal season ratings in the user’s ratings history
This would make IMDb ratings more precise and prevent users from having to judge an entire series before they have completed it. It would also help viewers understand whether the quality of a series changes between seasons.
Would other IMDb users find direct season ratings useful?
