Display of Keyword Categories on IMDb Web

We're pleased to announce the addition of category headings on keyword sub-pages for titles on IMDb web.
Keywords are now grouped under headings like "Subgenre", "Plot Timeframe", "Plot Detail", and "Other", making it easier to find what you're looking for.
You can check out an example on the Star Wars (1977) keywords sub-page: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076759/keywords/. If you've used the IMDb iOS or Android apps, this will look familiar to you. This update brings that same organized layout to the IMDb web experience.

You might also spot some new category headings, like "Franchise", on certain titles. These keyword categories are in active development and therefore work differently from the others. They aren't open for submissions or reports yet, and they won't link to Advanced Title Search results just yet either.

This new experience for customers on IMDb web will be released gradually over the next few weeks. We'll also keep you posted as we continue to develop keyword categories, and bring you exciting new features along the way.

We are pleased to announce that Franchise keywords are now contributable.
You can contribute these via the “Edit” buttons on title main pages, or via new a “Add” button on keyword subpages. You will now see a new “Franchise” option under the “Category” drop-down menu. This is available on both IMDb web and apps.
Similar to Subgenre keywords, Franchise keywords are preset and other keywords cannot be moved into the Franchise category, nor can they be deleted. This preset is currently limited to:
alien, avatar-the-last-airbender, battlestar-galactica, big-brother, blade-runner, breaking-bad, buffyverse, dc, degrassi, despicable-me, doctor-who, dragon-ball, dune, evangelion, evil-dead, fast-and-furious, frozen, godzilla, golmaal, gundam, harry-potter, housefull, hunger-games, indiana-jones, james-bond, john-wick, jurassic-park, kamen-rider, kung-fu-panda, lego, lord-of-the-rings, love-is-blind, love-island, maddock-horror-comedy-universe, marvel, masters-of-the-universe, mission-impossible, naruto, one-piece, pitch-perfect, planet-of-the-apes, pokemon, power-rangers, predator, rohit-shetty-cop-universe, rupauls-drag-race, saw, scooby-doo, scream, shrek, spongebob-squarepants, star-trek, star-wars, stargate, super-mario-bros, teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles, terminator, the-addams-family, the-chronicles-of-narnia, the-conjuring-universe, the-matrix, the-real-housewives, the-walking-dead, the-witcher, toy-story, transformers, yash-raj-films-spy-universe, yu-gi-oh, 90-day-fiance
We believe we’ve already tagged the majority of titles belonging to this set of franchises with their keywords. However, if we have missed any, please let us know! Any new titles released under these franchises will need tagging going forward.
Further guidelines including eligibility criteria can be found in our Keywords guide.

If you are planning to add the categories on main title pages, as in the app, I think I prefer the current keyword summary on the web. This is mainly because the category view as seen in the app excludes keywords placed in the Other category. The Other category often includes basic keywords like "sequel", genre-related keywords that have not been allowed into the subgenre category as well as "-character" and "-episode" keywords.
There are also those items that are seemingly misplaced in Other – like "droid" on the Star Wars page?
bradley_kent also had a thread last year with strange examples of many keywords being placed in Other, and I'm not sure if it was really resolved.

The keyword help page includes the following line. This is currently only true of the app:
