Compare watchlists -- find movies that are on multiple user's watchlists

My wife and I recently migrated to Letterboxd for the one and only reason that they have this feature:

Compare watchlists in order to, amongst others, find movies that we both haven't watched yet and would both like to watch.

It has been suuuuper handy and saved us a ton of time. Now we don't need to discuss which movie we watch. We just pick the movie with the highest rating that is in both our watchlist.

But, Letterboxd is not so great for other reasons. Mostly, IMDb's rating is more trustworthy. We would like to come back. But this feature is a must!

Please integrate this feature. It can't be so difficult. And if you integrate it, please make it so that we can actually compare the watchlists of unlimited users to make finding a movie for movie night easier! It would be great if IMDb can list the movies sorted by (first) most people who have the movie in their watchlist and (second) by IMDb rating. That would make movie night that much easier!

You _CAN_ compare lists on IMDb. Just not your Watchlist. Unless IMDb would reveal how to find the unique "ls" constant for our Watchlists. For instance, I know the constant ls006680406 identifies my Checkins, because when I click the view button on the add-to-lists dropdown, that's what appears. I have found no equivalent for the Watchlist.)

So if you each created a Custom List on IMDb, or used Checkins instead of Watchlist, you can easily compare the lists. The method is described on this list:

Super good news.

On another thread (also posted today), @cinephile figured out how to find the list constant for our Watchlist (and an easier way to find it for Checkins).

  • you can share your Watchlist and your Checkins with others to use in ATS as described above. Just Edit either, and observe the List ID in the url.
  • Bonus: if you View your Watchlist or Checkins by that List ID (namely remove the /edit and beyond from the edit URL), you get all the Refine options that come with a custom list.

Hi bderoes,

Thanks for the answer.

This is too much of a workarround for me. I need a native hustle free option to actually use it.

You only need to find the list id's once, create the search url once, and bookmark it.
