I found this report from the first week of June 2000 which makes May 2000 a plausible date (considering reporting it could take a few days):

No reason to doubt accuracy here as well, as controversies and incidents during filming were widely reported (lawsuit by environmentalists, boating accident of DiCaprio etc.)
