Automatic series rating based on individual episode ratings (From a daily power user)
Hi IMDb Team,
I am writing to you because I absolutely love IMDb. Over the last year and throughout this year, I have been using the platform like crazy. I open the app at least once a day, even when I'm not watching anything just to check lists or trivia, and many more times when I am actively watching TV shows. To give you some context, I have already watched at least 220 movies and series so far this year!
As a dedicated user, I love rating every single episode of the series I watch. However, I’ve run into a frustrating issue: the overall series rating is completely disconnected from individual episode scores.
Right now, every time I finish a show, I have to manually calculate the mathematical average of all those episodes on my own just to figure out what exact rating I should give to the main series page. For example, if I watch an 88-episode show like "Everybody Hates Chris," doing the math by hand for every single chapter is incredibly tedious.
I would love to propose an automatic feature for this. It would be amazing if IMDb could calculate the average rating of a series based on the episodes the user has rated.
Since IMDb uses a 1-10 integer scale, the system could automatically round the decimals (for instance, a 7.7 average rounds up to an 8, a 7.4 rounds down to a 7, and a 7.5 sits right in the middle).
This feature would save so much manual work for community members who want their overall ratings to accurately and mathematically reflect their episode-by-episode journey.
Thank you for your time and for keeping this platform amazing for movie and TV lovers!
