what was the TV series title

I hope this is the right forum to ask about a TV series title. I do not remember any detail except a scene showing a man in a room and in front of him sitting members of his family, I guess his father and other members, but somehow a sound talking to him or another person other than his family tells him that these are shadows of his family and that he has to awaken or realize that they are gone or may be they are in another place. The series is not a horror genre but possibly fantasy, action or mystery and I saw it between 2012 - 2018.
