trying to find the name of a movie

The movie took place in the Antebellum south and the leading lady is in need of money to save her family home (if I remember right, she has younger brothers and sisters and I think her mother was a widow) and plans to marry a wealthy man she doesn't love, but falls on love with another man.  I can't remember what her name was or anyone else's except her wealthy suitor, his name was Bodine.  I think the movie was based on a novel, but I'm not sure.  Does anybody know the movie I'm talking about?  I saw it on a cable station years ago but then it disappeared.
