Title of TV series

Title please,  trying to remembr the name of an English period tv series circa 90's maybe.

A bit of the plot is that an abused wife escapes to the country side with her children, they end up in a tent city where she has to pick potatoes to survive. With little money and starving she resorts to stealing green potatoes and becomes ill after eating them.
