Please, What is This Film Called?

There is a film that I saw way back in the mid-2000s that was either recent at the time, or from the ‘90s. I am almost certain that it is American, but it could have been Canadian.

In the film, the protagonist (a white man with brown hair) kills a friend of his. He hits him many times with the hammer whilst swearing, “F—you,” multiple times in the kitchen during a heated argument. He puts his body in a bag, and then a friend of theirs comes over to see it. The friend cries and says, “He was my friend; he was YOUR friend.” Afterwards, the protagonist gets away and he tries to hide from the police. There is one part about him getting involved with an older man who pays him “only” $300, so he runs over him with the car. He keeps reversing the car (a truck, actually), until he kills the man. There are some gay-club scenes, one of him dancing. There is also one scene of him shaving (I think). In one scene near the end, he goes to order a sandwich from a local place; the person working recognises him, so he writes “call the police” on the note. The protagonist figures it out, so he swears at him, and leaves. There is also an Afro-American character (a woman), who says, “margarita” with some kind of accent to her guests at the restaurant where she works.

At the end, after he’s totally given up, he goes to some type of abandoned place, and the police surround the setting. So, he covers his face with a towel and then he shoots himself. Also, there is a scene earlier on where he is dancing naked to his radio whilst putting on his jeans and white tank top.

I believe that it’s rated R due to the violence, language, and nudity. Please, if anyone recognises this film, let me know, because I have been searching for it for about twenty years. I have spent hours looking on Google with no luck, so I would appreciate it if someone knows it. Cheers. xoxoxo

Unfortunately, I have no idea. Would you say this movie had a similar style to Buffalo 66?

Hello, and thank you for your comment.

I looked up the trailer to Buffalo 66, and it is nothing like it at all. The film in question is much more similar to Hard, a film released around the same time (1998).

Oh, okay then. Just so we're clear, I wasn't bringing up Buffalo '66 because of its story, but because of its look and "style."

I'm somewhat confused about your description. You refer to the main character as the protagonist of this film. It sounds like he's actually an antagonist, and that the audience/viewer isn't supposed to identify with him.

One more thing, how did you see this movie? Was it on video? a premium cable channel?

Hello.

So, I totally understood what you meant regarding the aesthetic of the film. Like I said, it looks more like Hard. When I found Hard online, I got excited because I was thinking that it's it.

Well, he is the main character.

This was on television way back in 2003, or earlier in 2004. I was in grade six, actually. And, I saw it on probably Superstation or CityTV. One was an American channel for films, the latter still exists in Canada (where I am from). The film itself is probably American due to the accent of the characters and that it's set in San Diego or San Francisco.

Thank you for your time. Hopefully, you find it and make my day. =)

I see we're about the same age. I'm from Minnesota actually. The only Superstation I know of is the branding that TBS used for their network.

This movie must be really obscure. That Hard movie you brought up is itself very obscure. I just don't know where to look or what terms I could search for in order to find this movie, especially if you've been searching for this for close to 20 years. There are several things I saw as a kid back then that I myself have kinda given up hope on ever finding.

Have you tried Reddit's TipOfMyTongue community? I think that would be a better place to ask, even if only for suggestions and your question being seen by a wider audience.

@QuontonBomb Very interesting. I was born in '92. Yes, that's the Supertstation that I am talking about, the one that belonged to TBS.

It is obscure. I don't think it had been played in cinemas prior, aside from probably at film festivals.

Not that specific Reddit, but I posted on a different one over here:

Sometimes one can find it after a long time. There is one song that took me about five or six years to find, and another one that took me over twenty-one years. And, I found both of them within the same month last year, so there is always hope.

What songs were those?
