Please Help - Trying to figure out what Sci-Fi Alien movie this is.

So, I rewatched Arrival last night and it was not at all what I remembered.  I am looking for the name of the movie where aliens arrive on earth and land in strategic places around earth.  Of course it frightens the entire planet, we attack it, nothing happens other than the ships just sitting in one place.  At the end, they form a force field around earth and protect it from disaster, possibly a meteor strike if I remember correctly.  Thanks in advance, this is driving me crazy!
