Parallel world, utopian universe, fat man

My friend looks for a sci-fi movie. It's SF from 80's or 90's. Two friends invent a method of travel to parallel world/universe. First is a doctor, second is a fat tall man. First man has debts and he is glad that he dissappears. In a parallel universe are white free cars. Unfortunately, utopian world isn't eternal and two cops "attack" two protaginists, because one is too fat. Then, there were different people huntings aired in TV.
