No Status

Need the movie name pls

This colour horror movie is from the 1970’s. Small town on a lake. Everyone is weird and suspicious. Scary black car appears a lot. At the end everyone is part of a satanic or witch’s cult. Man or woman escapes by rowing a small boat on the lake. All witches gather on shore. They are attacked from someone in the water in the end. All I remember. Thx

No, I skimmed thru this one on YouTube. It didn’t have the cheesy special effects or the stars. More like a Rosemary’s Baby spin off. But thanks for searching. Good try!

Probably not it because some of the elements you mentioned are not in it as far as I remember, but there was a horror film from 1980 titled "The Hearse" that sort of sounds like what you described.

Very close. I zoomed through this movie already. It’s more of a ghost story. Has some elements but totally different ending. Thanks!

haha - you have stumped us - this is quite the mystery. I was thinking - is there any possibility you might be conflating the end of two different movies? I have myself done that sometimes as memory can be off.

Fair point. Long story, short IM. Memory is fallible. It was my PhD thesis, lol. But also subjective. With the revolution of the www, I’ve found so many books, cartoons, programs movies and songs, with only tiny fragments of recall. Based on my own track record, I’ll probably discover this one as being a close version of my childhood memory. I was about 7 or 8, so old enough to process frightful experiences. But not old enough to store specific media data. Starting to wonder if it was “made for tv” and tougher to find? I really appreciate the time ppl have taken on this site to search with me!

I totally get it and the memory thing was commiserating not criticizing :-)

I tend to have the same memory fragments of media and it drives me nuts when I cannot figure out what something was that I know I saw.

I do think the TV movie angle may be another thread to investigate. The 70s was rife with supernatural and demonic stuff so it's not a far stretch to think it might be TV-based.

@Carlos2023 do you have any other details like was it low/high budget, what language the characters speak, did it seem cheesy or deadly serious - and did any of the actors look like any other actor?

So it was a long time ago. If I had more details I probably would have found it by now. English language. I vaguely remember: it had no big stars. No special effects. Dead serious, not cheesy. Low budget but directed well, almost like a Depalma/Carrie level. “Let’s scare Jessica to Death” is very similar, although with Zombies. It may be the one, but I’m skeptical. Thx for looking!

happy to try and help - I always love a mystery. This one is stumping me BC I have seen most of all the 1970s-era films similar to what you describe - but the witches gathering on the lake is throwing me.

I know of one movie with a scary black car - The Car (1977)

There is also a movie called The Reincarnation of Peter Proud (but that one does not have witches but does have an ending where a man is shot in a rowboat)

Checked The Car already : not it

Peter Proud : that’s another one I was looking for thx!

Drink ur Blood: 😂 Too funny. No, not campy / cheesy

It had the identical production feel of Peter Proud.

Nope. Looked at Harvest. Ending and story don’t fit. Slave is from England. I meant English American. Sorry.

Yes, thanks. Very few on the list meet criteria.
