Looking for an old movie that takes place on the beach

I watched this movie on TV around 1976/1977. I don't remember if it was in color or black and white, but I think it was in color.
The story was about a couple who fell in love on the beach. He wrote poems for her on wood. But he must go to war and dies there. As time passes, she returns to the beach and sees the boards with his poems breaking and the wave washing it away.

Years later, very old, she is at her house having a cup of tea and sees him younger coming to get her. The cup of tea falls and she leaves her old body and goes to meet him with her young body. She still takes one last look at the dead old body and leaves for heaven with him and the movie ends.
