Help - black and white horror (thriller) movie/TV epsiode - man impaled by fence after escaping house...

Greetings all - looking for the title of the following (not sure if was a TV or movie).

  • Black and white
  • A man is held captive/imprisoned in what appears to be a English Manor House (or somewhere in Europe)
  • The twist at the end is that when he finally escapes the house, he runs down the drive and as he is walking near the gate to the estate, a wind comes up and blows the gate shut and it impales him -
  • At first I thought this was a Twilight Zone, but it's too gory. I reviewed all the episodes and no dice. It's not Outer Limits or any other US production. It's also not the Boris Karloff Thriller show from the 60's. I also looked at descriptions of Alfred Hitchcock presents but nothing really matches up.
  • Not sure if that was produced in UK or even Italy (years ago Joe Bob Briggs thought it sounded like a late 1950's early 1960's Italian horror movie

Thanks for any ideas...

I think it is Castle of Blood with the lovely Barbara Steele.  It has been awhile since I saw it, but I am pretty sure that is how it ends.  I know the remake, Web of Spider, ends that way.

The link below is to the trailer for Castle of Blood.

Thanks for the suggestion - watched the film on Tubi last night and I would give a strong MAYBE...it definitely fits the bill of what I described but what is odd is that my recollection seemed to be contemporary (late 50's early 1960's as the man was dressed in modern suit) and had a more ironic vibe like a Twilight Zone style twist. However, as with all things related to memory, I could also be conflating two different movies.

Need to watch it again and see if it jogs the memory.

Castle of Blood was remade in color as Web of the Spider by the same director.  It was odd to see Klaus Kinski playing Edgar Allan Poe, but otherwise it doesn't improve on Castle of Blood (in my opinion).  You might like it more than I did though.
