film with billie holiday

in the 40s or 50s i saw a film with a blonde lady in it i thought was called Billie Holiday. she was living with a man who bullied her I think. She got the better of him in the end. she had a screechy sort of voice but very entertaining. She couldn't be the lady who is featured in the internet now who was a jazz singer.

can anyone help me with the title and who played the parts please?
