Desperate for answer! I am trying to find a movie or tv show based off of one scene that’s been stuck in my memory all through my childhood

I don't know if this is a movie or a show but somehow even ChatGPT can't help me. It was a drama not a horror, it was in English, and the date of release had to be no later than around 2010-2012. Please help it’s been driving me crazy.

All I remember is a scene of somebody narrating a story and the narrator was a man. The movie or tv show shows this boy and he really wanted to be friends with these mean kids because he didn't have any friends. And they said they would let him join their club or friend group if he did the initiation. They had him stand on a stool in the woods with a rope around his neck making a noose and the rope was tied to a tree. They said if you can stand alone on this stool for 30 seconds or something like that he can join their club. So he did and when he stepped onto the stool and put the rope around his neck the boys ran away. I can't remember if they ever came back. And if the boy stepped off the stool with the rope around his neck he would be hung. And then the stool started wobbling and his legs were shaking. Then the stool eventually fell over and he was hung from the tree. Also the boys who made him do this ran away because that was apart of the challenge and they said they would come back to get him down after a little bit, but they didn't come back before the stool fell over and the boy died. I can't remember if they ever did come back even after that.

And that's all I remember and l've been trying to figure out what it's from for multiple years because I watched it when I was 5 or 6 years old and it traumatized me. Please help I can’t stop obsessing over this.

I've done some keyword searches using a mixture of words like stool, noose, boy, bully, bullies, initiation, and narrator. But I can't come up with anything you would be looking for.

Just to be clear, you're an American, right? And you saw this before 2013?
