Can't remember the name of this movie

The movie was a low budget movie from the 80s or 90s. Guy went to Africa and came across a hat that when he wore he could hear and speak to animals. Found cockroaches in his bed and his tour guide boiled them and they ate them. Tour guide told him to make sure the zippered his tent so that the lions couldn't get him. If anyone knows the name of this movie I would be so happy!! Thank you!
