Can't find the movie

There's a movie which follows the life of an author. She meets a mysterious man at a book signing event and then they have a torrid affair but there's also a parallel story that follows the life of this mysterious lover. Their affair turns towards a very BDSM-like one until she discovers that her lover is a dangerous criminal. If it helps, and if I recollect correctly, the lover/criminal was probably of East-Asian descent (but spoke English fluently).
