Artic Research Station Virus Movie

Hi guys

I’d like your help on uncovering a film I’ve seen in the past.  I think I’m looking at a 80s-2000s film with non-A lister actors.  I thought Gabriel Byrne or Christopher Walken were the lead but I think I’m wrong.  There is a group of scientists at an artic research station experimenting on plants.  They find something and open it which releases a virus which kills some of them instantly.  Some want to leave but others think the virus might still be present and they are carriers but can’t prove it.  Fights ensue between the two groups about leaving and staying.  While trying to escape they run through one of the rooms full of plants and they all instantly shrivel up and die proving the virus is still present.  All but one or two are killed or die by the end.  I think the film ends with someone making their way to a back room or exit and being transported up in a beam of light (supposably to an alien space ship).  Let’s avoid all the alien, zombie and monster films, as I don’t think any aliens are ever seen.  Thanks in advance for your help.  Ric

I think I've found the movie myself, after doing more research on the Internet.

It's actually called Alien Hunter 2003 staring James Spader

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0327409/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_7_nm_1_q_Alien%2520Hunter

A couple of things I did get wrong though, it's based in the South Pole not the Arctic and you do see an Alien (be it briefly).

Anyway, thanks for all your efforts on trying to find it for me.

The movie you're describing sounds like "The Thing" (1982), directed by John Carpenter. While it doesn't exactly match your description, it shares some similarities, such as scientists in an Arctic research station dealing with a deadly organism and the tension between characters about whether to stay or leave. Additionally, there is a scene where plants are destroyed, though not in the exact manner you described. The ending also involves a character being transported in a beam of light, although it's not to an alien spaceship. It's possible that your memory may be blending elements from "The Thing" with other films.

As I said at the end of my message -

'Let’s avoid all the alien, zombie and monster films, as I don’t think any aliens are ever seen.'

I know this film and you can ignor it and other alien films like 'AVP: Alien vs. Predator', as they don't follow the plot I mentioned or deal with a virus being released.

Thanks

Could it be the movie Virus (1980)?  It's a Japanese production but includes a number of well known, b-level American actors such as George Kennedy, Glenn Ford, and Chuck Connors.

It's not Warning Sign 1985 is it?

It looks like a good thriller with a few actors I know but It's not the one I'm looking for.

My film is based in an artic remote research station.  So even if it's not the Artic will will probably be in a Scandinavian country or the South Pole.

Thanks anyway
