A crime movie released in 2000's with a creative writing teacher

I'm looking for an American or Canadian Movie released in the 2000's probably between 2005 and 2010 (or maybe in 2011 or 2012, but I don't think so). It's a crime/thriller movie.

This it what I remember:

- the main character is a professor of creative writing at a university
- he's a pretty young man (in his thirties)
- I don't know if he teaches how to write a crime novel or a screenplay, but I think it's more about a screenplay
- he finds himself accused of a crime or a serie of crimes that he didn't commit
- there's a scene at the university where he's chased by the police
- it's a university with very modern buildings
- this university isn't in the countryside, rather in a city
- the story must take place in the north of United States, the landscapes are typical of states like Washington or Oregon, but it could also take place in New England or Canada (in Vancouver, for example).

All those elements can make you think of "Murder 101", a made-for-television film from 1991 with Pierce Brosnan (good movie, by the way), but I'm absolutely sure it isn't the one I am looking for.

I thank in advance all those who will try to help me

This is from much earlier (1988), but in the remake of D.O.A., Dennis Quaid is a creative writing teacher who becomes involved in a murder mystery.  Good luck with your search.

These are the ones falling in mind's view.

  1. "The mystery in their eyes" (2009)

  2. "Murder by Numbers" (2002)

  3. "City of Crime" This film may have different titles in different countries. "Freedomland" and "City of Crime" are two different titles for the same film.

"City of Crime" is the original title of the film, used in the USA and other countries. Typically, this title is the primary one for marketing and promoting the film in various regions.

However, in some countries or regions, an alternative title such as "Freedomland" may be chosen for the film's release. This could be done to better resonate with the local audience or cultural context. Recently, I had to write an essay about crime cinema, so I used the https://papersowl.com/examples/crime/ to search for an interesting idea

So, "Freedomland" and "City of Crime" refer to the same film, but with different titles tailored for different audiences.

The spinning man possibly. I haven't seen it but it matches a bit of your description a bit
