A b-film about an insane painter?

I've been trying to find this cheesy film, most likely made between 1980 and early 90s or so - it's a thriller, i think, the villain is a painter who paints his model in a way more disturbing manner than she had expected (he added skulls and stuff, I think?). There's a big showdown in a room full of candles (the villain's studio?) at the end. There also might have been a priest with a drinking problem as one of the good guys, but about this I'm not too sure.
