Wrong rating listed

I recently noticed that my rating for a film didn't change the average rating (even though it only has a few votes)

I then checked all the ratings it received and noticed that the average rating should actually be much higher (around 7.5) than the one listed on imdb (5.7). It seems to be frozen on this rating and does not change, even with ongoing ratings.

Here is a link to the film:

https://m.imdb.com/title/tt8518302/

I wanted to report that, since it's a wonderful indie film that (literally) doesn't deserve the low average rating that is currently falsely listed on imdb.

Hope you can help!

Richard

Hi Simonettirichard -

Know that IMDb does not use the arithmetic mean when calculating the ratings (though we do show the raw mean and median under the detailed vote breakdown graph on the ratings page). Instead, we use a weighted average scheme; this is why there's often a discrepancy between the user rating displayed on a film's title page and the arithmetic mean of all the votes cast for that film.

For more details about IMDb weighted ratings I encourage you to review our Help Article.

I hope this helps!

@Michelle

Thank you for the response.

So from the link you posted it basically means that you use your own system (which is kept hidden from the public) to set the rating of films, where individual votes are not counted equally (or at all) and  imdb basically has a random and subjective way of rating films.

This should not happen. I would like to know that my vote for a film has an impact on the overall rating of a film.

In the case of the film I posted, it seems that this film is stuck with a completely random low average rating that is neither calculated from the average of votes, nor has the possibility to change. This is an outrage and completely unacceptable!
