World of Warcraft Expansions merge into World of Warcraft
As already discussed here https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/video-game-expansions-all-over-the-place/642afb0ecab3782a6e0c55d5?commentId=643584e5cab3782a6e0cd33a&replyId=6435a170cab3782a6e0cd3f5
I am trying to merge Video Game Expansion Entries for Expansions that require the Base Game to be played. I was able to merge a few but now I am stuck at the following problem. When I try to merge https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5722532/ into https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0433664/ by correcting its title I get the following Error.
This correction has been rejected. You need to correct this correction before it will be accepted.
- The year in the new title must match the year in the old title.
If you need to change the year as included in the title, please submit a release date corresponding to the new year. If you do not know the exact date within the year, it is okay to omit the day and month in the release date. We will then update the year in the title accordingly if required. Please note that if you are correcting an existing release date by more than a year, you should also provide an explanation to assist in processing this change.
How am I supposed to correct this. I can not correct the release Date for the Expansion Pack first because that would be a wrong release Date. I cant merge the other World of Warcraft Expansion either.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8630174/
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt13286218/
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt23902986/
But it worked fine for the first few i merged.

I can't find it now (maybe deleted) but I think I saw a reply from Michelle at some point about these WOW expansions being eligible for their own title pages. They are pretty big things after all, changes the game significantly, get awards on their own, has their own completely different credits etc. They are not really different than a new game release. I think merging these would make things messed up. Maybe some case by case exceptions can be made and this is one of them.

Well then we have a problem because 5 of the 5 of the 9 Expansions have already been merged. I think Video Games are a mess as of right now on IMDB because its either not 100% clear how Expansions and DLCs should be treated or they keep getting added in a wrong manner.
If you go by this rule alone https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/titles/submitting-a-video-game/GGXDQM57UN44AH6U# they should be all under 1 Entry

I just discovered this merging and, as someone with a credit on one of the expansions, it seems weird (and potentially misleading) to see a credit for something, in this case the base game, that I not only didn't work on, but which came out nearly a decade before the expansion in question.
Thinking it was an error of some sort, I submitted a correction to WoW (which is currently listed as Mists of Pandaria?) as well as a new credit to what I thought was the expansion but which is actually some kind of film short? So I guess I'll have to revert both those edits.

Why was this marked solved? Whats the solution should the remaining World of warcraft Expansion be also merged or not?

Can we please get clear rules on this? Now some people have satrted adding CG cutscenes from Video Games as Short Movies. In my opinion this makes no sense because they are part of the Video Game not some seperate short movie.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt27872947/
Video Games seem to be a free for all chaos on IMDB.

Hi @valkyrslayer & All -
My apologies for the delayed staff response. Just to clarify our guidelines, if the video game is "episodic", meaning it is within the same world of the original game (ie. "World of Warcraft") - but the content is new, then we will allow the title to be listed as a standalone title listing. If the title is an expansion, wherein the game is the same, but there is new/additional content that can be downloaded, then this is a case where the title does not qualify for a standalone listing and should instead be listed as an AKA title on the original video game title page (even if the game is 10 years old).
I hope this helps clarify, if not, let us know and our staff can dig in further.
