Wong Kar-wai's "In the Mood for Love" -- original title?

Currently the 2000 film directed by Wong Kar-wai listed at https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118694/ is showing up with its "original" title listed as In the Mood for Love 2001. As far as I know, the original title of this Cantonese-language film was Fa yeung nin wah and it is commonly known in English as In the Mood for Love

Why is it being listed with (a) an English title as its original title, and (b) "2001" as part of the title? The movie not only was first released in 2000, but it also doesn't have anything to do with the year 2001. (It's set in the year 1962.)

I'm hoping that this was just the result of a misunderstanding by a contributor, but this movie has a sufficiently high profile that the staff should have scrutinized any change for its official IMDb title and not accepted the change without good proof.

Found this link. Perhaps some confusion?

@eboy Interesting. As there is a short film titled In the Mood for Love 2001 which is listed separately in books about Wong Kar-wai (see https://www.google.com/search?q=%22in+the+mood+for+love+2001%22+short&source=lnms&tbm=bks&sa=X ), it appears that there should be a separate entry for that film, but it should not have been combined with or taken over the title of the feature, Fa yeung nin wah.

I read somewhere that ”In the Mood for Love 2001” short was only shown in Cannes (edit: Ah, your link says the same) and then not anywhere else. But I don’t have all the details. In any case, that title doesn’t seem to belong to the feature film.

It might be that someone tried to create title page for the short film but it's merged in the end either by the mistake of the contributor or the editor who was approving the new title submission.

Hi gromit82 & All -

Thanks for the report and all the comments, after investigating I can confirm that there was an incorrect  Title merge a long time ago that combined the separate title listings.

I have now corrected the title display and alternate title text and attributes on the page for the 2000 feature film.  I have also split the 2001 short film into a separate title page listing.  If there is any outstanding data listed on the page for the feature film that solely belongs to the short film, confirm those details here and our staff can take another look.

Cheers!
