woke-as-slang

The keyword woke as slang was rejected for not meeting contributor guidelines.

The keyword already exists and is attached to fifty titles. If it's objectionable, it should be banned outright.

Curious. Is "-as-slang" the standard pattern used for keywords that track colloquial uses of words by people appearing in movies?

@jeorj_euler Yeah, but I'm the one who created the "as-slang" standard. If the staff wants to change the standard I'm cool with it.

I created the "as-slang" keywords because I believe cataloguing them is interesting and useful. I also believe AI will soon pick up where I left off and do a more exhaustive job. Right now, such keywords are curios.

But the "as-slang" part may not be not the problem. "Woke" is used by the right to mock the left. My guess is, someone on the staff finds the term offensive. But if the keyword itself is unacceptable it should be removed and banned.

As long as enough contributors know what the keyword is for, then there should be no problem. I was thinking that perhaps the meaning of "-as-slang" keywords wouldn't necessarily be immediately understood as being roughly equivalent to "thing-referred-to-as-" (which interestingly may or may not be coinciding with colloquialism), which is to reflect a fact unmistakable for subjective perspective.

Hi @jay_spirit -

I believe the "as-slang" makes it clear you are not calling the film "woke" but that it is used as slang word during the film, staff processing this might have been confused. I have resubmitted the keyword on your behalf and approved.

Cheers!

One thing to keep in mind is this keyword "woke-as-slang" should probably be limited to titles that actually focus on the word "woke."

Just because a character or speaker might happen to use the word "woke" in a title does not really warrant a keyword. And it's the same with keywords like "b-word," "f-word," etc.

Overuse of these keywords for titles where these words are not truly part of the plot can get dangerously close to even more frivolous, unnecessary, and "spammy" keywords like "character-says-woke," "character-says-b*tch," etc.

(I had to delete that comment and repost it because the uncensored word "b*itch" was rendering my comment private.)
