Solved

Will someone please explain how to correct an entry listed under "Incorrectly Regarded as Goof"?

I recently corrected an item listed as a Goof and successfully had it changed to "Incorrectly Regarded as Goof".  When I made the submission, I added the comments that explained why it was incorrect.  However, as your guidelines advise, those comments are not published and are only used by IMDB to help validate the claim.  Unfortunately, that results in the original goof being relabeled as "Incorrectly Regarded as Goof" but with just the original text intact and no explanation as to why it is incorrect.  To make it clear why the entry wasn't a goof, I attempted to submit an edit to the relabeled item, adding my details on the true situation.  For some unexplained reason, the update was "declined" with an admonition to "review our submission guidelines".  I can find nothing in the submission guidelines that holds even the faintest clue as to what I might have done wrong.  The process to change Goof to Incorrectly Regarded... offers no means to add the correcting explanation at that time and, apparently, changes after the fact are disallowed.

Could someone please tell me how to make this item more meaningful with the tools available to us?

For the record, the update receipt was #240522-025447-458000.

As an aside, I see that a number of people are being confounded by rejections that say only that the submission was declined or was unable to be verified.  It might help if IMDB allowed attachments that clearly demonstrate the validity of the claim and provided a more meaningful explanation of why a submission was declined.

Thank you.

Hi @uhclem -

I have resubmitted on your behalf and approved, as a reminder you can post links on the white box to help our editors verify. You can also create an idea post so other users can vote on it regarding allowing attachments on all other data types, that will give visibility to our teams in charge.

Cheers!

@Bethanny ,

Thank you, your assistance is much appreciated!

However, I really would like to know the proper way to change a Goof to Incorrectly Regarded in one shot so that I don't have to go through all this again.  As for the white box, I was thinking more of photos or audio clips that clarify the submission.  In this instance, though, the issue wasn't that the item couldn't be verified, it was that I had violated one or more of the guidelines (but referring to the guidelines offered no help).

Finally, I'm new to the support community, so could you tell me where to create an idea post?

Many thanks.

Hi @uhclem -

Within the contribution form, as Bethany mentioned above, you cannot directly upload evidence within the "Other" Explanation box:

However, if you have evidence (such as a video, image, audio clip, etc.) you can upload that information somewhere on the web where it is publicly accessible and you can then link that webpage within the Explanation box.

In general, I would recommend including the following information:

  • Brief description of the error and what you are trying to correct
  • If you have evidence (such as those mentioned above) it is always helpful to identify the timestamp on a video or audio clip where the information can be verified.
  • It can also be helpful to identify the source of your evidence.  So, for example, if you are linking to an image featured on an official  Production Company website, it would be good to indicate that.

Lastly, welcome to the IMDb Community!  To post an Idea thread, all you need to do is make sure you are logged in, then click on "Create Post" from the top banner, you will then be redirected to a new post form where you can select "Idea" as your post type:

I hope this helps!
