Why were these reviews declined?

I don't know why reviews for two titles were rejected.  One was rejected twice, the second time after I replaced an outdated word (used in the context of a film from 1920) that I thought might've been the problem:

#210228-002039-265904

#210228-142505-417504

With the review for the other title, there were technical difficulties submitting the review that resulted in me submitting it several times--the duplicate reviews rightly rejected, but since then the original has been declined, too, for no good reason I can discern:

Hi imdbmember -

I did not observe any obvious context issues with your User Review that would be in violation of our guidelines, please re-submit your User Review and promptly post the submission reference number here for our staff to review.

Cheers!

Hi Michelle.  Looks like I'm running "one for two".  One "long pending" review from last week was finally approved but the second, a not-so-positive review of Barry Levinson's popular, "Avalon" of 1990, was declined (210228-173812-726304).  Although the film, which disappointed me,  covered circumstances similar to my own, personal background, I diligently tried to focus on the film, including its weaknesses, but someone at imdb obviously objected to references to my personal experiences, which is a shame because in this case I couldn't write a decent review without referring to them.  I spent a bit of time and effort on that one too. C'est la vie.  I will re-read it but am reluctant to change it. Have a lovely evening.

The reviews were declined again.

I resubmitted them again, but they're not immediately appearing in my contribution history or email--had the same problem as aforementioned a couple days ago. I'll post those numbers when I see them.

Thanks, they've finally been accepted.

And Michelle seems to have done a good job in my experience. I prefer they err on the side of accepting actual reviews instead of overly looking for something to reject.

If it's any consolation, I submitted two separate reviews to imdb last week, and they have been in "pending" status for several days now. My experience is that when reviews remain in "pending" status for several days, they will be "declined" by imdb.  Although 180-200 of my reviews have been published by imdb, I have observed that reviews of films concerning certain subjects that imdb deems "sensitive" are more likely to be declined. I am Jewish, and all of my reviews of films on Jewish topics remain mysteriously and inexplicably "pending" for extended periods of time. Recently, I re-wrote my review of "Hannah Arendt" TWICE. All three reviews, which were very carefully written and researched, were declined by imdb, presumably because imdb decided that I focused too much on the historical circumstances of the film, which totally revolved around Ms. Arendt's controversial views of the Eichmann trial in Israel. I find this unacceptable as the historical event was a fundamental element of the entire film. Have a nice day.

That's been largely my experience, too, with submissions pending tending to be declined.  Most of mine that are accepted seem to be so automatically.

And the two reviews of mine that were rejected were for titles in the genre of "race films" from the early 20th century, so, same for me when I review such subjects.  There must be otherwise benign words that automatically trigger a requirement for IMDb staff approval or something.

Thanks for your reply. When my third review of the film "Hannah Arendt" was rejected by imdb, I protested on this board and someone, perhaps a volunteer imdb moderator, read at least one of the rejected reviews and stated that I devoted too much time to the "historical background" of the film.  In this case, it was impossible to write a meaningful review about that particular film without devoting at least a short paragraph to the historical circumstance of the Eichmann trial itself, the focal point of the entire work, especially when so many people today aren't even remotely familiar with the trial, the individual who was tried,  or the horrendous crimes charged. I may not have agreed with Ms. Arendt's opinions, at least not completely, but I objected to the censorship and condemnation of her thinking by so-called intellectuals. If you criticize academia in any way, imdb may not approve and may censor you.  What is even more offensive is the absolute garbage reviews, many silly ones, that imdb approves. Thank you again for taking the time to respond. I am sorry about your negative imdb experience.

BTW, if any imdb moderators are present, my two current "pending" reviews are #210228-025905-943804 and #210228-173812-726304.
