Solved

Why this unequal treatment?

I was just about to add a classic German radio drama series from 1992. One of the most important radio drama series in Germany, where this genre has a very long tradition. I wanted to use the "podcast series" format for this, which makes perfect sense (by the way, I'm waiting for radio dramas and audiobooks to finally be released for general distribution; just as silent films are part of the medium, audiobooks and radio dramas are also part of this entertainment sector—and besides music videos, commercials are also missing, but that's another topic).
Now IMDb is telling me that this isn't possible because podcasts haven't existed until 2004. Leaving aside the fact that the podcast format is poorly defined anyway, and IMDb lists all sorts of things as podcasts—why this limitation? And even more importantly—why is it regulated so vaguely? Why are these "podcasts" (https://www.imdb.com/de/title/tt12516530 and https://www.imdb.com/de/title/tt12516552) allowed on IMDb when they clearly weren't produced well before 2004, but also well before 1992? There are now more than 200 (!) "podcast series" listed on IMDb that shouldn't even exist yet: https://www.imdb.com/de/search/title/?title_type=podcast_series&release_date=,2003-12-31.
Let's not kid ourselves, these are radio productions. Why are they allowed, while I'm facing a dead end when it comes to what I want to add? Why are "The Adventures of Superman," released between 1940 and 1951, OK (https://www.imdb.com/de/title/tt39149641), or this Swedish radio program, running since 1959 (https://www.imdb.com/de/title/tt16160816)? Why a record (?!), which apparently accompanied the Disney film for promotional purposes, and why the BBC radio play of The Hobbit from 1968 (https://www.imdb.com/de/title/tt22083444) – but not this great German classic ( https://www.ardapedia.org/wiki/Der_Herr_der_Ringe_(H%C3%B6rspiel) )? Fun fact: the German version of The Hobbit made it onto IMDb: https://www.imdb.com/de/title/tt30778093. Fun fact: the German version of The Hobbit made it onto IMDb: https://www.imdb.com/de/title/tt30778093. That was already a top-class production, but The Lord of the Rings has even more class.
So please, turn off this not very effective gatekeeper year 2004.

Hi MarcusCyron -

I'm following up to confirm the current guidelines:

  1. Radio shows are not eligible to be listed unless they are re-released in Podcast format (and designated as such)
  2. We support the radio podcast listing with podcast dates, so if you are seeing a Radio show listed prior to 2004, this means: a) the Radio show was re-released as a podcast and the start date needs to be modified for the podcast release (not the radio show release), or b) the Radio Show listing is not eligible and a series deletion needs to be requested.
  3. 2004 is our current release requirement for podcast title eligibility.  We will not accept Podcast titles prior to 2004.

I hope this information helps clarify.  Please let us know if you have any additional questions!

I understand it now - but I don't think, that this is the best way to handle this.
