Why Sci-Fi tragicomedy with a love story is not classified as Romance genre?

The Sci-Fi romantic tragicomedy "You are the Universe" is named in the official trailer as "The story of the last love in the Universe" (either believe me or find someone else who can read and understand Ukrainian).

I supposed it to have a genre mark "Romance" at IMDB.

It does not. I've got surprised and tried to request adding that to the title. My request was declined.

Could anyone explain me what is wrong there, why love story can be considered as non-romantic? I really might miss something.

According to our Genre guidelines:

Romance: Should contain numerous inter-related scenes of a character and their personal life with emphasis on emotional attachment or involvement with other characters, especially those characterized by a high level of purity and devotion. Note: Reminder, as with all genres if this does not describe the movie wholly, but only certain scenes or a subplot, then it should be submitted as a keyword instead.

So in your case, just because there is the word "Love", it does not mean the movie is considered as a Romance, it might qualify to be added as a Keyword. Also, we do not consider wikis as valid evidence which is another reason why it was rejected.

Thanks for an explanation.

Well, in fact, this is exactly what this movie is about - a man heard woman voice, fallen in love for her and headed to her in attempt to help her and save her. This is not a movie about space itself, most of movie is about love, personal life and inter-relation, and rather space and science fiction is a subplot, the space is just background and push for this love.

And I did not base that on Wiki, I base this on the plot and my friends opinions, and said trailer simply confirms that.

Well, sadly I did not watch this movie myself yet, it is a bit hard to do because of outages, as most of theaters do not work when there is no main power. I will come to you when I do, with updates.

And, actually, I cannot understand why https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1355644/ or https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0338013/ are marked as Romance genre then. In your definition, romance is a subplot in both of them, they are mostly science fiction movies.

Have a nice day and happy new year!

I have finally watched it in the theater and I can definitely tell you - it is about love and despair actually, and pretty much less about science fiction and comedy.

Just live with that now.

P.S. And I will know now that genres at IMDb are not always precise and complete. :)
