Why is there not a "standup" genre?

Why is there not a "standup" genre?

I've read old posts about how adding genres is hard, etc., and even another request for a standup genre from a few years ago, but I didn't see a good explanation.

I can't tell if something is a standup special by genre, as they seem to be marked "Comedy" and keywords are useless because the keyword "stand-up-comedy" and other similar ones return a bunch of movies that are about standups or something (like The Big Sick) but not actually a standup comedy show.

I sincerely believe that "standup" is a fundamental category of films that is distinct from everything else. Adam Sandler's Billy Madison is a "comedy" but Adam Sandler standing on a theater stage for an hour is something else ("standup") and there's no way you could confuse the two.

Hi ansarya -

We hope to make improvements to our Genre Lists in the near future.

Currently, as we don't have a specified genre for stand-up comedy shows, the best way to categorize "comedy is to include the "Documentary" and "Comedy" genre.

Cheers!
