Why are the dates for some TV shows different when shown on the Web vs the App

I have noticed that the App sometimes shows different dates for TV episodes in the App vs. when looking on the Web from a laptop.

For example:

Bosh Legacy Season 2

In the App shows: E1 on 20 Oct, E2 on 20 Oct, E3 on 20 Oct, E4 o 20 Sep, E5 on 20 Oct, E6 on 20 Oct, E7 on 3 Nov, E8 on 10 Nov, E9 on 20 Oct and E10 on 10 Nov

This is clearly wrong as later episodes are shown as being at earlier times.

On the Web they are displayed as: E1 on 20 Oct, E2 on 20 Oct, E3 on 27 Oct, E4 on 27 Oct, E5 on 3 Nov, E6 on 3 Nov, E7 on 10 Nov, E8 on 10 Nov, E9 on 17 Nov and E10 on 17 Nov.

I expect this version shown on the web is correct, but why the difference?  You would expect they were using the same single source of truth for episode data and

@kjmcfall This will be due to differences in your location settings across the web and the app, plus differences in data completeness in our release date coverage.  You might want to check that your settings on https://www.imdb.com/preferences/general and in your app match your actual location.

We will display local release dates where we have them, but we fall back to the earliest release date anywhere in the world if there is no specific release date which matches your location.

In the case of this series, it seems we have dates for the US and Japan across the whole of S2 and then only dates for earlier S2 episodes in the UK and Germany.

Does this explain the situation?

Hi @Col_Needham ,

I do not think that explains why on the Web site it shows later episodes as being before earlier episodes.  The data is messed up and not consistant.  Even if there was some timezone or release date differences going on they would still follow each other in sequence.

@kjmcfall It does explain it, sorry.  As we wrote above:

so here is https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14168162/episodes/?season=2 with US/English settings on https://www.imdb.com/preferences/general

and here it is with Japan/Japanese:

These are the only countries which have full release dates for the entire season; in any other location you get either (a) the date in that location if we have it OR (b) the earliest release date for the episode, which in this case is Japan as they seem to be slightly ahead.

Where are you located and what are your location settings on web and in the app?

I am located in New Zealand. The locale settings for my iPhone and Windows laptop are both New Zealand

@kjmcfall This is how https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14168162/episodes/?season=2 with New Zealand/English on https://www.imdb.com/preferences/general looks like here:

Is it still different for you?

Still different, but both now show the shows in chronological order.

This was really just an FYI.  Both devices are set to NZ as a locale and show different data.

It is weird, but just too hard to get fixed.  I leave it in your hands to do something or not as you see fit.

Cheers
