Where is my review?

I submitted a review yesterday and it didn't show up. I'm sure I followed all the rules. I tried again today and it still isn't here.

I see "declined" with the first submission but I can't see anything I did that was wrong. It says "pending" with the second.

I'd rather not post it all right there. Is there another way? I do appreciate your effort because the first time I had a review declined they just sent me a link to the guidelines and I saw right away what I had done wrong.

I've been doing it for 20 years too and I've had a couple of reviews declined. Thanks to your link I found one that wasn't recently.  My reviews are very wordy. And of course I'd be posting something that's somehow unacceptable. You're sure it's all right to put a very long review here?

Okay, I'll take a like as a yes. The film starts off on a happy note as Phil, a police officer, and Sarah, a teacher, are traveling with their young son Jessie, having a pleasant conversation. Then they stop at a gas station for something to drink. While Jessie is in the restroom, something happens. Apparently there are two ways to get in the restroom and Jessie just simply disappears. A year later Sarah seems happy enough. That's because she's drunk and on medication. The two should not go together. Most of the time we see Sarah is barely functioning. When she is focused on some task, she seems pretty much normal, but she doesn't seem to care much about her appearance. And she is constantly wearing this yellow hoodie. There is some evidence Jessie might have been kidnapped by someone with a connection to child porn. Occasionally we see progress on the investigation. I'm not clear on whether we get a resolution to the case. Sarah continues to teach but while she has high expectations of her students who are learning about poetry, she lacks energy and enthusiasm. There are two students who I assumed would become the focus of Sarah's efforts to find a purpose in life. Alma has a brother in Afghanistan who enjoys death metal, and she is constantly listening to her brother's music with earbuds. Sarah reprimands the child for not paying attention in her class but later is not only trying to understand the depressing music by listening to it, but escaping with it. The student who Sarah spends the most time with is Adam, who has Asperger's and is not even her student. She just witnesses the boy having a meltdown in the hall as he is being sent to the principal for something. We also see Phil doing his job. There is a quirky couple whose arguments are disturbing the neighbors. Phil also stops by that gas station several times, so it must be close to where the couple lives. Phil has a brother Tim who is troubled. He seems pleasant enough but is very dependent on the couple as he can't seem to hold a job. It's never made clear but he might have a problem similar to Adam's. And on the subject of Adam, Sarah becomes way too obsessed with learning about the boy and his home situation. I think she may be neglecting her teaching because she follows a woman who is either the foster mom or the biological mom. The woman denies having children but Adam lives with foster parents. But she brings Adam lunch at school and criticizes him for forgetting it. Anyway, it's never made quite clear what is going on with her, but something is happening in the restroom of a Getty's gas station. I won't say whether it happens, but after learning the specifics of Adam's situation, it appears likely that if Sarah has to accept that Jessie is gone, maybe she can fill the void by adopting Adam. The scenes with Sarah and Adam might just be the best thing about the movie. And someone decided there needs to be an elephant. Why? Well, it does give us a pleasant scene. The elephant, if it is real, seems to have a personality. I don't know precisely where the movie is set but shortly before we see the elephant in a fenced-in area next to an old circus tent, there are road signs that say "Newark". The credits indicate New York and New Jersey were among the filming locations. Olivia Wilde does a fine job acting. While Sarah has some pleasant scenes and gets to be pretty much normal at times, she is mostly depressed. There is one scene where the grief finally hits her, and she does that really impressively. Ty Simpkins is likable enough as Adam. Mostly he doesn't seem all that unusual but his behavior is such that people would tend to make fun of him, and yet my impression is once we are used to him he doesn't seem strange. Just really smart and boring, unless we enjoy learning useless trivia, and somehow I think we can. I go back a long way with Giovanni Ribisi, and I've seen him do a lot of good roles. Tim is no exception. He's just not all that prominent. There are several scenes where the purpose seems to be nothing more than artistic. Someone in charge must really like power lines of various voltages, and so do I. There is one scene with pretty clouds near sunset or sunrise, where the clouds are speeded up and look sort of like smoke. I've mentioned music. Fortunately we don't get to hear much of Alma's so-called music, and what we do hear is not usually at full volume. But there is a variety of styles. At one point there is something that fits Sarah's mood which is closer to hip-hop or dance (meaning a dark basement, not normal teenage girls) mixed with grunge. We hear that for longer than we really need to, and while it's not what I would call enjoyable, it seems like the sort of music that would be honored by critics or awards shows, with some really unusual techniques. Minutes later "Fire Lake" by Bob Seger is on a jukebox and after what we were just subjected to, that sounds SO GOOD. Do I really need to say this isn't family friendly? Although I will say you could really enjoy the first couple of scenes if you just quit at the first gas station. There is a lot of what appears to be bad language bleeped out. This is purely for those looking for quality, not enjoyment.

I haven't received another response and it really is time for me to rejoin the real world. I got most of what I came for which was a link to where my reviews go, and that does keep me from having to write the review from scratch if it somehow didn't get accepted. So I do appreciate that. At least I know it was submitted.  I did find one thing which I don't believe was enough for a rejection. I described the behavior of an autistic character and tried to do it right. I called him "boring" intending to communicate that he would be perceived as boring, because I felt it was important to state that even though the character seemed close to normal in his behavior, the characteristics were still there.

If you want to contribute a plot synopsis, just Edit the title page, and select Plot Synopsis, found under the category Plot & Quotes.

@bderoes I'm trying to find out how to do this when there's already a plot summary. As I said above I don't want to delete anyone else's work but I keep being told I can add a plot summary,

I just checked and I have two reviews of the same movie "Pending". One was submitted Monday when I thought something had gone wrong. I had seen the message "Sorry, your review is too short" before typing anything, and one time when that happened I think the review didn't get submitted. The other review was submitted after I was given advice about what was wrong.

And let me add that merely posting the plot summary is not a satisfactory solution for me. Even if there was not one, mine is told from my point of view, which in a way is an evaluation of the movie, if not what you would call a review. And what I want to say is too long. Maybe for some people, what would be considered spoilers would be included.  If I am reviewing a movie for which imdb has little information, I won't post a spoiler warning but will be careful to avoid what many might consider spoilers. Unfortunately, for a few movies my long review is the only information imdb has other than the credits. It may be true that my review is the only information online anywhere. If imdb wants to lose that for other movies, they're coming close to doing so.

You should split your contribution into 2: plot information and reviewCombined, it's too long.

I checked again and both reviews were declined. I made changes by actually expressing opinions this time on the movie early in the review. Since I've never had a problem with similar reviews before, imdb now owes me an explanation.  This is not a case where I can look at the guidelines and see anything wrong. If imdb doesn't want my reviews, I will take my ball and  go home. They can keep my past reviews, but I won't subject myself to this again. If imdb doesn't want to have any information whatsoever on certain movies, that is exactly what they will have.

But I did adhere to the guidelines. They never had a problem before. I followed your advice but it didn't help. I didn't make my review any shorter because that would leave out the important information I was providing. I honestly don't know how to do it any other way, and unless they have literally changed the guidelines in the past month or so, they are treating me unfairly.

Like I said, the reviews did not violate anything before. If they had a problem, they should have had a problem a long time ago. And I can't simply replace someone else's plot summary.

And yet the reviews that violated the guidelines are still there. Or are they?

Regardless, I don't know how to do it any other way. You limit a movie to one plot summary, and you won't get mine.

I just had a review approved. That was fast. Now apparently I know how to do it right.
