Where do story consultants belong?

The writers guide says that "script consultants" should be listed in the "other crew" section. However, it does not mention "story consultant" and I'm not sure if they are similar job titles. I've seen it handled differently based on the show and, probably, whoever entered the credits.

The one show that I watch that lists "story consultants" seems like these should be writers credits as the "story consultants" are frequently credited with writing the show as well.

I agree with you, they should both belong to the writing credits.

Hi Adrian -

"Story Consultant" credits should currently be listed under the Writer section.  Cheers!

Hi Adrian -

I have reached out to our editors for further discussion regarding our documentation and policy surrounding Writer credits and what is acceptable to be listed under this section (such as the possible inclusion of "Script Consultant, etc.), they will review our docs and policies to ensure that we are up-to-date for these credit placements and that any changes should be documented on our guides.  As soon as I have an update I will let you know here.  Cheers!

Hi all,

We've updated the writers submission guide now. In short, story coordinators/supervisors should be considered as writers, however script consultants should be submitted to the miscellaneous crew section.
  • Staff writers, story editors, story coordinators, story supervisors and story consultants also belong in the writers section.
  • Script doctors and script consultants belong in the miscellaneous crew section.
Regards,
Will

Staff writers, story editors, story coordinators, story supervisors and story consultants also belong in the writers section.

According to https://contribute.imdb.com/updates/field/miscellaneous/job?S the following jobs with the following number of credits are currently in the misc. crew:

2,269 staff writers,
22 Story Editor,

1 Screenplay Developed by,
27 story,
2 Story By,
5 Story by,
663 story by,
1,120 stories by.
412 writer,
4 written by.

Will you move these to the writer section?
It would make the misc. crew a bit less unwieldy. It would also do justice to the people who did these jobs. And it would lead to a bit less confusion among contributors when adding credits for these people.

Hi Marco -
I'm not certain if there is a plan to move the existing credits vs just accepting corrections as they are submitted to us.  I will reach out to the applicable editors and clarify, once I hear back I will let you know here.

Hi,

I have tried to add my story consultant credit to a show under series writing credits. The creator of the show has one credit for all eight episodes (1,1,1) and then written by for all eight episodes (2,1,1) then I inputted my credit (3,1,1) but the (story consultant) attribute doesn't appear and I'm above the creator in the rankings which doesn't sit right.  I deleted my credit in order not to offend the creator of the show. Is there any way to correct this, please?

In addition, my story consultant credit appeared on my bio page but not on the show's page.

What do I need to do on the forms to make the credits appear in the following:

Alex Yazbek (created by)

Alex Yazbek (written by)

Jake Riddell (story consultant)

Many thanks!
