Thanks for the tip. I had read that article, but didn‘t make the connection to „verification“, since that word doesn‘t appear in the article. Why does the contribution form use different terminology from that used elsewhere?
Furthermore, the article doesn‘t make sense to me. Why should the IMDB cast list be locked when complete with respect to onscreen credits? Most films have more players than are credited onscreen. I have verified the completeness and order of the casts for The Palace Episode 1.1 and for Anne Bäbi Jowäger (1978) with respect to the onscreen credits. However, the onscreen credits of both end with „and many more“.
Just submitted credits for a short film that was marked ”crew complete”. In reality, maybe 60% of the crew was added and there were some mistakes. There were also maybe 30+ names in the ”Thanks” section alone (none of them added). These locked ”cast compete” lists probably create more hassle than help, to be honest.
I have been complaining for years about marking cast and/or crews as complete when, in fact, they are NOT complete. This has fallen on deaf ears, apparently because some contributors "like" to mark casts and/or crews as "complete" based on on-screen credits. This is a delusional untruth that has no basis in reality and should be abolished.
I absolutely disagree, especially in regards to television episodes. I wish we could mark departments as complete. Often, I find that people have added new people to departments that aren't actually credited and don't mark them as uncredited, causing extra work for me to go back and find out who I credited and who is new and should be uncredited.
Peter, it said ”Cast is believed to be complete”, or something along those lines. And it gave some ”warnings” with new names. This is something else then? The ”first phase” (you need a second one and it becomes locked)?
Edit: Based on Michelle a few years ago, it’s still possible to add credits - even if the ”Cast is complete”. You need tick the box and probably provide solid proof etc.
”Furthermore, you shouldn't submit that a cast/crew is complete unless all the on-screen credits are listed. If there are credits that may be missing, such as uncredited entries, those can still be submitted after a cast/crew list has been verified by accepting the Warning in the Update form.”
@eboy It's not really locked even after second phase.
A recent case I had to deal: The Number 23 (2007) has "verified as complete" on cast list for years, meaning it's in second phase, but someone added an obvious uncredited credit to cast list recently. It was added even without order number, someone adds a cast credit without order number to a cast list that has "verified as complete" and they approve it. What is the purpose of "verified as complete" if that is gonna happen?
And obviously no proof was provided let alone "solid proof", because it was not credited on movie anywhere, no proof is possible.
Best part is, I submitted a correction to add (uncredited) attribute to that entry by explaining all of this, by pointing out cast list was "verified as complete" for years, telling them I checked the credits and it's not credited, telling them not having order number should have given them the tips to suspect it's not credited.
But they said "unable to verify". They were able to "verify" that incorrect credit to a "verified as complete" cast list without any proof, but they were "unable to verify" uncredited attribute addition to that with all of these explanations.
(it was handled eventually via help desk)
So it looks like it does not really work that efficiently.
