What happens to deleted images?

Just out of curiosity, I've observed when an image is deleted for whatever infraction, it disappears from the movie gallery, but the URL image itself still remains so if you have kept it, the image is still accesible directly to its URL.

What's the purpose of this IMDb policy?

Are they kept just in case...? I've never seen a deleted image return to live.

Are they ever deleted definitely for good at some point, or are they kept indefinitely in this storage? If so, for how long are they kept til they're finally erased?

@Tonio_Fraga ,

IMDb is a very large database. Once an image is removed from a gallery, it may still be available in other galleries or there may be latent references to that image elsewhere. Regardless, it may take a few hours to days for the link to an image to no longer work.

The IMDb poll community frequently runs into missing images in lists and polls. This can be problematic.

An IMDb staff member may be able to offer additional information regarding this matter.

I think there is a distinction between an image that is deleted after being reported and one that disappears from a gallery after a name or title tag is removed from the image. If I report an image, it seems to be deleted as soon as the report is approved. I don't know if there is a process to delete images that are left without any name or title tags.

@Peter_pbn There is no distinction. The same thing happens to all images that are either deleted or untagged. Example: this image that I just gotten deleted:

https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/MV5BMThlZjQ1YjAtNzRiYi00NTM5LWI3ZDYtMmU0MzA5MzYzMTZjXkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyMjQwMDg0Ng@@.jpg

As you can see, its URL remains public and accessible, but it's gone from its movie gallery:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0061719/mediaindex/

In this case, I deleted this image because it was of poor quality, but I used the excuse that it had naked breasts on display, which I knew it would be more persuasive.

What intrigues me now is for how long that image will remain in this status of "deleted but still accessible."

The way the system works, IMDb has a gigantic waste basket of images that have been deleted but remain there, and I'd like to know for how long, but it seems the mods are not interested in offering an answer...
