What goes into verifying a contribution?

I've submitted a requested deletion to Andrew Whatley's page several times now and it's been declined because it can't be verified, but here's the thing: I'm Andrew Whatley.

I know I wasn't in Season One, Episode 13 of Under the Dome - or any other episode of it, for that matter. There may be another Andrew Whatley out there who was on that show, and I'll bet they'd love to have their page properly credited.

Anyway, I'm certain it wasn't me. I'd be glad to provide a photograph of myself so that someone could watch the episode with the photo alongside. I'd give $1,000,000 to anyone who can find me in that episode.

Anyway. Just wondering what I can do to get it removed.

Thanks,

Andrew Whatley

-the same Andrew Whatley who was on Jeopardy! and who was in Mississippi Burning, and who did produce an episode of The College Tour, but who was absolutely not in Under the Dome.

Never delete.

Always Split or Move, even if that means creating a new person with the same name.

From the Help Center:

How can I move credits to another page?

Unfortunately when people have similar names, credits can be associated with the wrong person. To fix this you need to ‘split’ the relevant credits to the correct person’s page. There are two different ways to do this: APPROACH A: How ... Read more.

@bderoes Thanks. I'll give it a shot.

@bderoes Although, it does raise the question: Why is delete an option if they don't want you doing it?

Just wondering.

I have recently submitted deletes of duplicate credits and these have been accepted. In those cases it was crew credits where one of each pair had an attribute that redundantly gave a variation of the job title.

There are cases where delete is the right option but they are rare.

It's uncredited though, how can you be sure it's another person with "same name" and just not a mistake when there is no credit to check and see it's really "same name". And split will create a name page that looks empty after all because the only credit will be uncredited.

You're right, but I'm not sure how to solve that problem. I just know it wasn't me.
For now, I've submitted it to be added to the page of the person I believe it belongs to, but I can't be sure.

@andrewwhatley The option to delete a credit is there so that a credit can be removed if it is completely inaccurate.

Suppose that the cast list for  Star Wars (1977) on IMDb began with the following entries:
Mark Hamill ... Luke Skywalker
Harrison Ford ... Han Solo
Carrie Fisher ... Princess Leia Organa
Burt Reynolds ... Bugs Bunny
In reality, Burt Reynolds was not in Star Wars, there was no Bugs Bunny character in  Star Wars, and Burt Reynolds never played Bugs Bunny. Therefore, there would be no way to "correct" that fourth cast entry to make it more accurate. The only thing one could do about it would be to delete it. By contrast, someone probably did play "Townfolk" in "Under the Dome: Curtains", and such a person may even have been named Andrew Whatley, albeit not the same Andrew Whatley as you. So that would call for a correction, not a deletion.
