Weighted Average for our film dropped us to 5.7 for no reason

Hello IMDB community.

This is our feature film Blossoms to Blossoms.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt22529250/

Recently we were uploaded on the biggest streaming platform in Greece and started receiving ratings.  We had a pretty good rating going on up until IMDB decided to switch to a weighted rating for our film and we dropped to 5.7.  Is there anything we can do about this? I know this is an indie film and we don't have a whole team promoting the film all around nor do we have the New York times writing a review about us, but the low rating definitely feels unfair since most people rate the film very highly. You can also check on Letterboxd, we're doing very well.

Thank you

Hello @giorgosathanasiou,

Our voting system already detects and defeats attempts to stuff the ballot and skew the rating, as demonstrated by the difference between the weighted average and the arithmetic mean on the vast majority of titles in the database.

Our voting system is continually improved in this respect so you can rest assured that abuse is always automatically detected and thwarted.

Thank you for your reply. Does that also mean that it will also automatically correct this incorrectly weighted rating? Because right now its just wrong.

For example Clash of the Titans has 5.8 rating but most of the ratings hang around the 6 star area. Most of our ratings are 10 but have a total rating of 5.7 while we only have about 100 ratings anyway.

We haven't meddled with it in any way nor has the streaming platform. Is this because we are not paying for IMDB pro ? Because this whole thing feels sketchy.

Please reset your algorithm.

Best regards

@giorgosathanasiou Hi!

It's not uncommon for initial ratings to start high and then go down after a brief period of time. Please visit our FAQ page for more.

Cheers!

as you can see our ratings look good - its the weighted total rating that is just making our film look bad - and we haven't tampered with anything. There is no reason for a weighted rating at all

@giorgosathanasiou Please remember we use a weighted average for all titles, as mentioned above visit our FAQ for more information.

Well by looking at the ratings chart above how is our weighted rating correct? I dont see any other thing that could be affecting our ratings. They are real reviews - and most of them are 10,9,8 etc. 5.7 is just wrong.

Check it yourself. I read the FAQ many times.

Just accept IMDB has made a mistake and just correct it.

@giorgosathanasiou The algorithm likely looks at individual votes and removes those it suspects are not legitimate. As IMDb users have no way of looking at the data they have (which users rated the title, how long they've been on IMDb, what other votes they cast), so we are not in a position to judge IMDb's algorithm.

Your title's weighted average changed suddenly because the algorithm is not invoked until the title reaches a minimum number of votes, thought to be 100.
