Video Game Expansions all over the place

Per IMDb rules, a video game expansion should be submitted as an alternative name for the base game rather than as a separate title.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3898332/  is an expansion for https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1712064/

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt15400198/ is an expansion for https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1712064/

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3561828/ is an expansion for https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2186735/

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0290178/ is an expansion for https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0258523/

The list goes on and and on, all of the World of Warcraft expansions for example have seperate listings as well.

If i understand this guideline correctly this should not be the case. https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/titles/submitting-a-video-game/GGXDQM57UN44AH6U#

Should I request merges for every expansion I find as separate listing? Wont that cause problems for the ratings etc. because people rated the expansion higher or lower as the main game?

Hi @valkyrslayer -

We have to have in cosideration the last part of the mentioned policy:

Video Game Expansion Packs / DLC
Video Game Expansion packs / DLC should be treated in one of two ways depending on their original release.

If the expansion pack / DLC requires the original game in order to play the additional content then it should be considered as part of the existing Video Game title.

In these cases the title AKA (expansion title) should be added to the existing title page i.e. "Mass Effect 2: Lair of the Shadow Broker" on Mass Effect 2 (2010) (VG)

If the expansion pack / DLC can be played without owning the original game then it should be added as a standalone Video Game title.
So if in the mentioned titles the case is the first one you may submit merge requests.
Cheers!

Hi, Thank You for the clarification. I tried merging theese https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0290178/ is an expansion for https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0258523/

With this explanation: Diablo II: Lord of Destruction is a expansion pack for the Videogame Diablo II. It requires the bas game to be played. Even says so in the official shop https://us.shop.battle.net/en-us/product/diablo-ii-lord-of-destruction

Update ID: 230407-090032-801000

But I cant see status for this update in my update history. I tried merging them like this https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/titles/how-can-i-merge-two-titles/GAL233TVTCPMLVDK?ref_=helpart_nav_17#

Edit: Also there are literally hundreds of Video Game Expansions listed individually where ist wrong that they are listed like that ebcasue they require the base Game. Is there no easier way to fix this? Apparently people keep adding Video Game Expansion Titles in the wrong way.
