"Video by" credit

How should a "Video by" credit be entered? I can't find anything in the guides about what it should be listed as. To me it suggests Director & Producer? Maybe Editor too?

I made submissions for these two music videos:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijVw3QS_6Jk

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydH-LYRBvEc

Both of which have "Video by Jessica Sipos" in the description. While the overall submissions were accepted

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt30805527/reference/
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt30805531/reference/

the credits for Jessica Sipos were rejected. I added her as both Director & Producer as wasn't sure but both were rejected.

Also I'm not clear whether the rejected was because it was in the wrong credit or if not believed it was actually her. It clearly is - her instagram is tagged in one of the videos.

Thanks in advance

Lopek: My guess, and this is not certain, is that the "Video by Jessica Sipos" credit is roughly equivalent to crediting her as director.

But I would not advise "translating" the "Video by" credit into multiple jobs like both director and producer, much less also editor. Jessica Sipos doesn't even have one on-screen credit in these titles (which, admittedly, is not unusual for a music video on YouTube); one vague credit in the YouTube description shouldn't entitle her to more than one credit listing on IMDb for each title.

Yeah, I wasn't sure. I added both as wasn't sure which was more appropriate expecting it was likely one or the other may be rejected - but both were.

I did include a (as video by) as an attribute too. Both Director & Producer have "video by" as existing role alt name/attributes.

@lopek Hi! We will confirm with our policy team what would be the best position to credit.

Thanks!

@Bethanny Is there any news on this? Just adding another music video that has the similar credit "Videographer" which I assume would get the same as "Video by"

Well, ”videographer” basically means a person who shot the video and it’s not a ”director” credit (unless one person did both, and that is unclear). Usually it’s listed as ”cinematographer” (or ”director in photography” in feature films) but I guess in this one it was added as ”videographer”.

Based on this info, it could mean that the ”video by” means a person who shot the video. I would probably just leave the ”director” field blank in these cases. It’s not that you have to add ”director” to a title. And you can add it later if that info is confirmed.

Adding credits such as ”producer” or ”editor” to a person could mean that it reads something like ”xx is a director, producer and editor” in the automatically generated list on the person’a name page.

So it’s best to treat someone’s name page with respect and not to add occupations based on guess work. If you don’t know, then don’t add.
