In Progress

Unnecessary Edit Vandalism

Been doing the pages for this show for 7 years, I get up early and spend 3 hours doing each episode to a high standard. Today I noticed a bunch of stuff had been altered on moved around on all the episodes of the current season, I looked into it deeper and found most of several shows airing on History had also been done over with this years episodes. Crew switched to incorrect sections, formats altered to no longer match onscreen roles. I only do one of these shows so I can only fix that but someone has been problematic across at least 4 shows and who knows what else they've edited.

This is people's hard work and people's pages/job roles they are using as a playground to suit themselves. So hopefully you can not only put a stop to it, you can prevent anything they have pending in this vein being approved as well.

Here's the 5 repair contributions I made, so you can see the stuff that's been messed with to help track down the user responsible.

I didn't want to spend hottest day of year on a boiling hot laptop re-auditing 5 episodes I'd already worked hard on, but here we are.

Thanks for reading.

Hi VonPunk-

Thank you for posting the references! Further reviewing, however, these crew credits were moved to the correct section of Editorial Department were they should be listed.

As per the plot outline, this has been re-submitted and the changes will be live shortly.

Cheers!

@Maya They were? Were 'Senior Editors' moved to Editorial Department recently or always meant to be that way?

They've been in the Editor section for long as I've known or seen, they are even listed 4th in the drop down menu versus listed 47th in the Editorial Dept..

I think if that's the case, they should be mass moved from one section to other, because at least 90% of them are listed in the Editor section. Also there's no mention of them in the guidelines either way so that could be updated.
But that person still altered a bunch of other credits for no reason.

Thank you for approving my outline edit, I appreciate it.

@VonPunk - You're welcome!

Thank you! So yes, only the 'main editor' should be listed under the Editor category. All the others including the senior editor should go under the Editorial Department. We will pass it along to the respective team to review the addition on the Help Guide.

@Maya Yeah, that'd be good to clarify it in the guide. Some of these shows have so many editors, like 15 - 20 of them between the two departments under 5 or 6 different roles, it can get ridiculous.

Well since nearly every 'senior editor' on the site is listed in the 'Editor' section, I think you'll have to also put it forward to the powers that be, to have them all migrated to the Editorial Department to avoid it continuing to be the standard. Importing and checking the drop downs are largely what people use rather than guides or the forum to where a credit might go and it overwhelming looks like it belongs in Editor as it stands to anyone looking. It'll just end up being a mess otherwise. Thank you for the clarification.

It is still going on, after I repaired all my work, they've reedited it wrongly again on the same 2026 episodes so credits do not match onscreen and are not in the format IMDb uses. They are obsessed with adding random hyphens to stuff.

Why were they not stopped?

That move of the 'senior editor' credits hasn't happened yet. Used to be done within a day, but if they are still on the to-do-list, can you add 'supervising editor' to the same move, I've moved about a thousand of those over last couple of years, I'd rather do no more. Thanks.

All the Senior Editor and Supervising Editor credits have been moved back to the 'Editor' section, either their was a mess up on your end or the vandal has made 1000's of false contributions. I'd been putting them as you requested and advised you mass move the rest but now they are all in wrong section again.

They are still altering stuff too, making a mess of it as well as they are copy and pasting and changing people job titles to something else.

When I first reported this it was about 50 credits that had been tampered with, now it's in the 4 figure range and growing.

Is there no update yet?

There's literally thousands of credits being changed against the guidelines wishes and no confirmation if it's IMDb's doing or someone retconning the whole site for laughs. I literally am unable to add crew members to so many shows because are all over the place now.

Why were all those 'senior editors' moved to editorial dept by someone, then all moved back to editors, loads of stuff is moving around and I can't keep up with it. Where are 'supervising editors' meant to be because they've all moved too.

I noticed masses of 'online editor' credits are now altered to the lesser used 'on-line editor' spelling so they no longer reflecting the onscreen credits exactly. Just one example of lots of job title credits being re-written.

Just tell me what I'm meant to be doing with these credits or I can no longer continue.

Edit: I've just seen a older bunch of posts saying IMDb is doing a lot of this, why couldn't I have been informed of this when I asked here last week?

And is IMDb also altering job titles like this:-
'job title: company name'
to

'job title - company name'

and

'svp: post production'

to

'senior vice president: post-production'

Because I can no longer tell vandalism from IMDb's moves, how are we (contributors) meant to operate properly if we are in the dark, so more clarity is needed here, so we are not working against each other under the notion of doing what we think is right despite the objectives secretly changing.

@VonPunk Any chance of a response to at least some of my questions here, especially this one:

And is IMDb also altering job titles like this:-
'job title: company name'
to

'job title - company name'

and

'svp: post production'

to

'senior vice president: post-production'

Because its holding me up with contributions. Okay I can piece bits together from combing some threads here to try follow IMDb's lead on the mostly mysterious changes being made, but not all, my only choices are to contribute nothing, do things potentially wrong in the hope it's still right or accidentally end up in an edit war with IMDb itself thinking it's the moves of a bad actor by mistake.
Like something MAthePA said earlier, I feel lately I'm being cut out of good honest contribution opportunities, because it all feels so secret, and every thing I ask goes unanswered.
